Walking around with £800

I have just bought a car and need to pick it up tomorow. Thing is I still need to pay £800 for it and they don't accept cards so this means I have to go to bank and then walk down down a long road (quite notorious for muggings but very busy with lots of people and shops etc) to the car dealer.

I have nobody that can take me.

What would you do and have you walked around with this much money in your purse before?

why can;t you give them a bankers draft - it is the equivalent of cash

BabiesEverywhere · 24/02/2008 11:01

Or take a taxi, have it waiting for you at the cash machine and get them to drive you straight to the garage...worth a £5 for peace of mind.

moljam · 24/02/2008 11:04

id get taxi

JingleyJen · 24/02/2008 11:07

if you find you have to take it don't carry it all in the same place, some in your coat some in your trouser pocket some in your bag so if (god forbid) you did get mugged they wouldn't get all of it.

Or do you have one of those moneybelts people take on holiday and carry the money tucked into your trousers under your top.

Ruby don't know where Mrs Snape is buying the car from but there have been alot of scams recently regarding bankers drafts so if we were selling our car I wouldn't accept one.

BabiesEverywhere · 24/02/2008 11:08

Or ask the owner of the car to drive you in it to the cash machine. You can drop him off home with the cash.

RubySlippers · 24/02/2008 11:09

really Jingley? scammers are everywhere it seems

in that case, get a taxi ....

JingleyJen · 24/02/2008 11:19

Yup, people buying cars using forged bankers drafts in this area. so the people happily handing over car & keys and documents only to find that the draft was a fake.

Taxi does sound like a good option.

get the garage to take you to the cash point or the seller of the car
