NHS band 8a Professional lead

Hi there!

I have a professional lead interview coming up (currently a band 7)... Please can anyone advise me on previous questions they have had?!

Your question is quite vague as it would depend on the specialty. I would expect in depth questions on governance, vision for service development, scenarios regarding personnel issues eg managing disputes/skill mix development, scenarios regarding evidence of managing complex situations such as care complaints and potentially clinical reasoning/ complex clinical management questions.

Question 1 will be why have you applied for the post/what skills do you bring etc

There will be 2/3 values based questions look at the trust values and make sure you incorporate them into your answers

Clinical governance is big- what is your understanding of it and how have you implemented it in practice

Scenario questions specific to the area

Specific leadership questions- what is your leadership style etc

I have had a few interviews recently and there have been some questions about diversity and and health inequalities and how you overcome them

I think it is important to remember that at this level you need to be answering with depth and breadth

I had one 6 months ago. Very odd interview but I got the job. Questions I got asked were short and values based so I had to expand. I recommend STAR technique. Think of examples of how you demonstrate things such as leadership, challenges. What you have implemented etc. also your ideas and what you would do in the role. Questions I got asked.

what’s more important leadership or management

are there enough hours in the day to do the role

how do I support diversity in education

what’s my vision

what will I do in the first 100 days

how do I measure success?

How did you get on? I am currently applying for a professional lead post and want to know about the day to day work? I already do the post as a band 7 for one team but the new post is across a number of teams so feel it would be very different to my current role. Hope anyone can help
