How long does 2nd class post take these days?!

This is for a normal letter or card. I'm wondering how far in advance to post birthday cards so that they arrive in time but not too far in advance!

Recent things for me (well, from me, to a couple of different Eastern counties) have been only two days.

I get one delivery a week atm. Makes no difference if it’s first or second.
