Does anyone live in Lymm, Cheshire?

Hi fellow parents,

We're seriously considering moving to the northwest and have got our eye on Lymm in Cheshire. Does anyone live there? Would it be realistic to commute from there to London a few times a month?

Thanks!

Sarah

I work there. You could drive to Warrington Bank Quay quite easily and get a direct train to Euston London which takes 2 hours.

I live near there, yes about a 20/25 minute drive to Warrington Bank Quay and then loads of trains to London. It would be fine.

I've name changed for this, Lymm is nice enough but for any day to day needs you would be looking at driving into Warrington and most of Warrington is a hell hole to drive through. Obviously I'm biased but IMO I'd look at Hartford , it has much better schools (including the best state sixth form in the country, and 2 excellent private schools) and has its own little station on the main intercity Liverpool to London line. Hartford is a bustling little place and is only 2 miles into Northwich which has just about every major supermarket and amazing facilities for families including 2 rugby clubs, rowing and sailing clubs and a lovely new cinema. It's far safer than Warrington in terms or crime and there is a very active rotary club that organises many events and River festivals throughout the year. Delamere Forest is also close by.

Then again I guess Lymm does have Ian Brown .

Lymm has a big Sainsbury's and a coop, restaurants, Drs, dentist etc. It has Knutsford just down the road too but yes, Warrington isn't the best for driving in to.

Thanks everyone so far. It does sound like Warrington might not be very pleasant to have as the nearest big town.

I'll look into Hartford.

We're basically looking for somewhere that's easy to commute potentially daily into Manchester and also to commute a couple of times a month to London. We want a large village or small town with lots of amenities and a nice community feel. With good schools and countryside nearby. We have two small kids under 4.

Lymm is lovely and Warrington is just far enough away to not be an issue (plus it's not that bad!). You've got Knutsford and Manchester on your doorstep. Definitely don't rule out Lymm. Holmes Chapel is nice too. Tiny but has a Sainsburies and a train station.

Have you looked at Macclesfield?

Hartford over Lymm any day. And there are also nice villages around Hartford that might work for you.

Do London trains stop at Hartford? I didn’t know this!

Just to point out though, everywhere has good and bad points. South warrington is actually lovely (Appleton, Stockton Heath etc) and a very easy 15 minute drive to the station, where the train to London is 1hr 46m.

Im sure there are nice bits of Northwich, perhaps Hartford is the nice bit. Also isn’t Davenham nice?

But if you’re after something like Lymm, I think you’ll find Northwich quite down at heel by comparison.
