Robbie - unfair competition?

Just wondering if anyone watched the Robbie Williams show (free promotion for new album) on TV last night?
I thought it was absolutely fantastic - I don't know what it is about him, but I could watch him for ever.
And the annoying thing for dh is that he can't mock me for getting all hot under the collar, as he does when I'm watching things like Pop Idol / Fame Academy 'cos, as he said last night "Oh, here's a surprise another good Robbie Williams song" (and he wasn't being sarcastic).
Why does Robbie do this to me? Why can't dh hate him (he'd like to), and tell me I'm not the only one!
By the way, I read his biography, and it was so badly written, and completely sycophantic, but I still love him!

Damn, missed it.

Paula1 · 17/11/2002 16:12

I watched and loved it. I went to see Take That just before Robbie left, I was the one shouting 'Robbie' when everyone else fancied Mark Owen and Jason Orange!!

batey · 17/11/2002 16:56

Know what you mean, kind of want to dislike him but can't! Been listening to his new single on and off all day. Plus "Angels" and "She's the One" were both around when dds1 and 2 were born so they always bring a tear to my eye.
You're not alone!!!

Demented · 17/11/2002 16:58

Aaaaaaaargh! I forgot that was on!

Clarinet60 · 17/11/2002 21:25

Ah, Robbie, Robbie . yes, what IS it about him?
I even dreamed about him after the show last night.
This is getting bad.

Caroline5 · 17/11/2002 21:45

Agree, he has such an ego and yet you can't help but like him. Mind you, I saw that film he did about himself "Nobody someday" (?), he did come across as pretty sad and mixed up in that. Great voice, though.

emsiewill · 17/11/2002 22:10

just remembered something else dh said about him "you wouldn't want to be trapped in a lift with him". So true.
But still, I think I may buy his new album tomorrow. And I never buy albums.

Who wouldn't!

anais · 20/11/2002 21:07

But apparently Caroline5 it isn't really ego - just an act. He's meant to be really insecure in real life. But lets face it, I think he's forgiven an ego - he has done incredibly well given his age and all the early predictions. I always liked Mark out of Take That, but I must admit to having come round. Oh come on, everyone loves him don't they?

aloha · 20/11/2002 21:38

Me! I can't stand him. Hate the tattoos -yuk - hate the Frank Spencer (oops - Sinatra) impressions - hate the self-indulgent ego stuff - hate the songs -(the lyrics make no sense at all - 'I'm loving angels instead' INSTEAD OF WHAT????) - hate the singing voice. Truly, truly, can't stand him. So, that's just me, then?

anais · 20/11/2002 21:48

Yup, I think so Aloha! I must say his tattoos arent my kinda thing, tho tattoos generally...

Tinker · 20/11/2002 21:59

No, no, no, no, NO - have ALWAYS HATED ROBBIE F WILLIAMS. Hate that whole 'aw shucks' bit about him.

And I still maintain, not that this has ANYTHING to do with ANYTHING, that he's gay.

Rhubarb · 20/11/2002 23:02

I like his tattoos, and I quite fancy him really (should I change my nickname at this point I wonder??). Fellow Mancunian and I used to go to school with his fellow Take That partner, Mark Owen - used to have very bad acne!

CAM · 21/11/2002 11:17

I think RW is good at his job, ie. making singles for 9 year old girls, but he is getting more camp every day. And MO was his best friend in Take That.

Bozza · 21/11/2002 11:24

But Aloha my entire music collection is made up of lyrics that don't make sense....

roxie · 21/11/2002 11:30

Aloha
I hate him too - he was the 90's and i was the 80's. Never liked Take That either. He's obviously done v well to get where he has, but on a sexual note, does nothing for me.
Now give me Kian (or whatever his name is) from
Westlife - or as i call the to my dd (10) Wetlife!!!

Drooling already.....and feeling v.v. old!!!!!!

lou33 · 21/11/2002 11:30

Doh! Sorry, it's the Albert Hall / Sinatra thing, not the programme that was on a couple of weeks ago. Sorry to raise anyone's hopes.
