Anyone had their wedding blessed? What was it like?

I have been wanting our wedding blessed for ages but don't really know what it will be like ie. like a full blown wedding without the vows bit? Or is it a short service? Do you or can you have it alone? DH and I didn't really have a wedding at all, just 2 witnesses at a register office, but, I don't want to seem like I am having a blessing just for a big fancy day and a party... but on the other hand, I would like to have the chance to celebrate our marriage. If you've had yours blessed, was it like a big white wedding just slightly different words said? Or a small low key affair. I don't really know what wedding blessing etiquette is TIA x

It is entirely what you want it to be. Ours looked exactly like a real church wedding, including exchanging rings and vows. We simply didn't do banns/asking if anyone knew just cause or impediment as to why we shouldn't be married/signing the register. Many of our guests didn't even realise that it wasn't our "real" wedding.

We went to one recently which also looked like a big wedding but instead of a sit down reception the couple went for a tea and cake affair, which worked very well.

Can I ask did you or the other person wear a wedding dress?

I wore a wedding dress (I didn't at our legal wedding). Dh didn't, though was in tails.

I guess that the main difference though was that there was only a short gap between our legal wedding and the church blessig. If you have been married for over a year then I wouldn't do the traditional type dress, but I would still do a proper service including vows and hymns etc and a huge party.

PMSL, I meant the other "bride" at the other wedding blessing We have been married nearly 2 1/2 now, definatly think it's too long for a full blown wedding as you said ie. with dress etc.

She wore a cream dress and a wrap. I don't think that you would have automaticaly called it a wedding dress, but obviously within the context it looked the part.

DH and I had a blessing a couple of weeks after our wedding in Kenya (which was just em and DH). Ours was the same as a full blown church wedding with hymns, readings, etc. I wore my wedding dress, my sister was bridesmaid and DH and the other male mebers of our weddin party wore morning suits. We then had a reception in a hotel afterwards for 100+ guests. The reception was quite informal as it was a blessing - so no sit down meal and freebie drinks, just buffet, a bar, free tea/coffee, disco, live bad, etc. Was lovely.
