Mother's Day invite

We've been invited to a Mother's Day lunch with MIL, SIL, BIL and their adult children, and our DD is nearly 2. The invite has also been extended to my mother too, but I'm wondering does anyone else do a big family meal out on Mother's Day?

Part of me thinks let's go along as it saves time and we get to see the mums together but the other part thinks cringe 😬 I can't be bothered.

We have a big family meal which I host. It’s a lovely day. No obligation whatsoever, just an offer.

I think that sounds a lovely invite and how kind they included your mum

you sound a bit difficult tbh is this your usual kind of response to people wanting to do nice things in a family?

I spend every Mother's Day with my best friend and our children! Started when she was a single parent and my DH worked every Sunday but 7 years later it's become a tradition!

I used to then go to my mams on the night but sadly she recently passed away so will spend the day with my friend then have a little gin and probably a little cry on the night.

Selfishly I wouldn't want to see MIL at all but her behaviour since my mam died is the reason for that.

I don't understand why going for a meal with your family would be "cringe". Can you elaborate a bit?

We will be having a meal at home that weekend but MIL and DM will both be invited (as they always are whenever they like really).

😂💯

If you don’t want to, don’t! If it’s not a firm yes, it’s a no.

Never done big family lunches for Mothers Day but I don’t see why it would be ‘cringe’ for anyone that did want to.

How is a meal with your family cringe? You do sound difficult.

Of course. Sometimes I feel uncomfortable, the last family meal was in January, MiL shouted at the waitress, complained about the food, moaned about the noise and the others were ok but just not the best time.

I do , always spend it with DH, children my mum , siblings , their children and their in-laws plus my in laws. I love it

Right, well that little drip feed explains why you might cringe at some of your MILs behaviour. Doesn't matter what other people do because they're not dining with your MIL.

Interesting feedback from some thanks...
