I think there is a ghost in my house!! it sounds crazy ok, but things keep going missing!! i ve said it for ages but no-one takes me seriously until the other day.

leave me start from the beginning...

when we moved in 5months ago the house had been empty for months. i know an old woman lived here before us and was taken ill, whilst she was in hospital they put in all disabled facillites eg shower, hand rails etc etc only she never came home she sadly passed away in hosp. we kno this cos one of our neighbours was good friends with her.

after about 2 weeks little things were nigling us, but couldnt put my finger on wat it was. Now all of a sudden my DS bedroom is freezing all the time, we have to have the heating on consant but it dont make much difference. My DP and myself run our own home improvements business so he s checked the windows for any possible drafts but found nothing, my DS of 9 months has had to move back in to our bedroom because his is so cold

then a few weeks ago My radio started to turn its self on, but my DP ad my mum said the dog was probably jumping up etc wen i wasnt looking and knocking it on, THEN it happend when we were all there in the same room

Last weekend i was preparing our sunday lunch when my DP asked me to come and see sumthing on the tv, when i went back the knife had gone!! we searched everywhere but found nothing, now this morning i went to make my cuppa and there it was on the work surface plain as day exactly where i had left it!! my worktops get cleaned all over top to bottom every day so there is no way i could have missed it!! i phone DP just in case he had found it and put it back there but he knew nothing.

other things have gone missing too, jeans, babys toys, etc i d even gone out and bought another paring knife to replace the one i had "lost"

i know your all gonna think im crazy but this is all true.

ANY GOT ADVICE IM REALLY FREAKED OUT

i had this all the time when lived at mums but they mean no harm we had someone come in who said it was my nan drove me nuts as i'd pop something down reach out to get it and GONE lol

you can say out loud that you know she means no harm but you live here now and she need sto be in peace

sounds mad but it worked lots of sceptical people will think i'm mad but maybe she is tryin g to say its still her home and is probably quite sad

light a candle and just ask nicely for her to go and find peace to cross over

igglepiggles · 08/02/2008 14:40

igglepiggles · 08/02/2008 14:47

im really scared it wont work i mean my son cant sleep in his own bedroom thats how bad it is but the rest of our home is absolutly fine!! i dont even think it was "her" bedroom as it is the smallest. could there be an explinationabout the radio?? and wen we was decorating before we moved in we put a plug in airfreshner as te house stunk. when we used to go back the next day it would be half way across the room!!!??? any think of a reason why cos im baffled!!!

I'd say something out loud too. I had this loads in a house we used to live in. Things were always dissapearing being turned off/on.
The telly was forever turning off while we were watching something, I even bought a new one cos I thought it was buggered. but new telly the same, and old one still working fine now!
Initially I was really freaked out and a bit scared. But over time I kind of got used to it and then it just pissed me off I used to shout when something had gone or been switched off for him to pack it in!
We lived there for 5 years and although it was still happening when we left, it had massively calmed down and was easy to live with.

Good luck!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 08/02/2008 14:49

Nope, not a ghost - a Borrower.

Boredveryverybored · 08/02/2008 14:51

It won't do any harm to try it I would do as suggested and gently give recognition that you know they are there, and you understand why they are still here and then ask nicely for them not to keep doing the things that they are. If that doesn't work, you could always get the house blessed. It may or may not make a difference, it was siggested to me and priest was more than happy to do it. Didn't help in our case but have heard others say it stopped everything. So may be worth a try

igglepiggles · 08/02/2008 15:00

i can cope with the hiding thing etc just about anyways but the coldness in elwybs bedroom is redicilus we even swap rooms cos his room is quite smaller than ours!!

I don't think you're mad. A friend of mine lives in a 400year old house and has some sort of presence. She has caught orbs on a camcorder. Both her, her dh and a friend have all independly seen a ghost - the friend matched the description of the ghost that they had seen without them having told her beforehand.

But it seems friendly and has never been nasty.

Triggles · 08/02/2008 16:22

We've had some of this as well - chilled room, and definitely stuff missing then reappearing. I don't think it's meant as any harm, just a sort of "separation anxiety" so to speak? I think the suggestions given sound worth a try. Let us know how it goes.

igglepiggles · 08/02/2008 17:36

ok i ve had a little go at wat u said, and straight after the lights went out but i think that something to do with the men working up the road causing a powercut lol but i did get scared for a moment but so far so good!!! nothing missing today!!!

lol would have mde me a bit freaked too lol

well all phsycics say to ask them nicely and ask them to leave and cross ovr to peace as its unsettled spirits that stay

i reallyn hope it works but it has been said youmay need to do it a few times

expatinscotland · 08/02/2008 17:51

see if a dog will go into that cold room.

twotimestrouble · 08/02/2008 18:05

I DEFINITELY have a presence in the house if that makes you feel any better. Our washing machine always changes programme (often to 90), freezer switches on and off as does radio, things fall down for no reason, rooms go from icy to boiling within hours. Last freaky event involved a huge crash in one room during the night but couldn't find anything out of place. For ages we kept putting things down to faulty wiring or electrical glitches etc but eventually you just know it's not.

I know someone died that lived in our house (although like you, not in the house). I don't feel the presence but I am sure she does perverse things on occasion. I have said 'just stop it' before now and it does seem a bit calmer for a bit. Anyone who hasn't experienced this always thinks you're mad but I have gone from a complete sceptic to a complete believer.

If it's really bad could you approach a local vicar in confidence?

igglepiggles · 08/02/2008 18:07

colin (the dog) and Nev (indoor rabbit) wont go near it i have to drag the dog passed it to get him to have a bath!! and the rabbit will freak out and even bite which he never does unless walking passed!!?? but then again colin is scared of nev and the neighbours cat etc so he s nothing to go by!! lol

OP posts:
twotimestrouble · 08/02/2008 18:21

Well it does sound like you need to deal with 'the presence' up front and try and make it move on. Could anything else have happened in the house (would your neighbour know). I mentioned the vicar because even if your not in anyway religious 'it' migth respond. Not to an exorcism (!!!) but more to a blessing, which I know vicars happily do - they did one at my old house before I moved in.

ScruffyTeddy · 08/02/2008 18:29

Oh weird things have been happening here for a couple of months now. I have lost several random items and there's literally nowhere they could have gone. I just dont lose things.

I have a bolt on the toilet door (downstairs) which doesn't actually fit into the bolty-holder-thingy on the frame (you know what I mean!). Every time I go into the toilet, the bolt has been moved across and the door wont shut. I thought it was dd at first but its happened while we've all been out all day and at night too. Odd.

jeremyspants · 08/02/2008 19:07

First of all, please try not to be scared.

The electrical things going on could be explained by funny wiring, power surges etc.

If you do feel there is a 'presence' perhaps you could go to your nearest Spiritualists church and ask some of them round to diagnose, as it were. -These people know what to do and are wonderful at reassuring people who have been freaked out by inexplicable things.
It will all be ok.

twotimestrouble · 08/02/2008 19:08

Funny how much of this goes on but I do think you have to view it as benign and not sinister. Nevertheless if you can't live with it you do need to deal with it or it'll begin to really upset you.

mumzyof2 · 08/02/2008 20:34

Oh poo - the thread that was like this yesterday had me freaking myself out in the night, last night! And now theres this one!
Always make good reading though.

igglepiggles · 10/02/2008 22:03

ok this is weird, i was sitting with my lighter by the side of me and wen i went to have a ciggy (tut tut) it had gone!! so i looked for another one and an hour later i went to have another one (even bigger tut tut) that one had gone too!! both of them totally dissapeared!! still havent found them!! its prob a sign to give up smoking lol

OP posts:
mammyofET · 10/02/2008 22:22

I have lived in more than 4 houses (as a grown up) and only ever felt a 'presence' in one. It was definetely there although nothing ever went missing. I was never sacred by it but my husband and I (he being the ultimate cynic) agreed that it was an elderly woman and only in certain parts of the house. If you are scared I suggest getting a vicar in or some religious authority for guidance on getting rid of it.

Good luck!

ilovespring · 10/02/2008 22:24

what i know about ghost is that they go.... UUUUUUUHHHH!

twotimestrouble · 11/02/2008 12:12
