My dh is desperate to get our xmas tree going...I prefer to wait until the week before xmas. Anyone else starting early?

Ours is going up this evening, DH is just about to wrestle it out of the loft

WhizzzYouAMerryXmas · 05/12/2004 19:05

No - we are getting a real tree next weekend, have got all the stuff out of the loft though & we have enough tinsel & lights to decorate the entire house. I tend to buy sale stuff after Xmas & then forget what I have. We now therefore have 4 boxes of Xmas crackers & about 5 packs of cards !!

ThomCatsAreNotJustForXmas · 05/12/2004 19:06

Well we've taken it out of the loft and assembled it but haven't actually got round to doing the decorations as yet!

Kaysleighbells · 05/12/2004 19:07

Ours went up today. First time we have put it up as a family as ds2 always too small before but he is 3 and a half now so he helped decorate. it was brilliant. Obviously it will need a little rearranging once they are in bed Grin

bought our tree today - will decorate next weekend

SantaGoesToTheGym · 05/12/2004 19:45

Took everything down from the attic today...however I have been accumulating stuff since I first got married 12 years ago....but ..this is only my second Christmas in my own home, suspect that the volume of stuff maybe just this side of vulgar. may even be vulgar Grin will keep you informed.Did one large leylandi with outdoor lights last week. Cleared all the mantlepieces today and will decorate those first then put the tree up on the 19th. OMG I am like a child Smile

snowdonim · 05/12/2004 20:51

Nope, not yet. That's a job for 19th Dec. But please, please let me into your secret - how do you keep your trees looking nice for a whole month?? After two weeks ours start listing to one side, the choc deco's have been eaten, the regular ones keep falling off and the lametta has migrated all through the house. Plus half the lights have gone out, esp the ones which the cat chews.Grin

Kate, your mention of surprising your dad on his 60th reminds me of a friend from New Zealand. She went back to NZ for her mum's 80th and walked into the party disguised in a gorilla suit. Her mum looked up and just said "Oh hello, Erin." Grin Hope you have a great time with your dad.

happymerryberries · 05/12/2004 21:05

Not until the weekend of the 18th but we do keep it up until 12th night

OnZephyrstdayofXmas · 05/12/2004 21:13

just got all ours down from the loft and put the tree up with dd. She's half excited and half tired/stroppy lol
Question is now, do i leave it with everything thrown on or do i make it all nice and symmetrical when she's in bed??!!!!

Gobbledigoose · 05/12/2004 21:17

I rearranged mine Zeph - it looked like a dogs dinner and I'm afraid I'm rather snobby about my tree! Grin

When we move they'll have their own lounge/playroom so next year they can have their own and make it look as s**t as they like!!!

Gobbledigoose · 05/12/2004 21:18

Now I know why I was never allowed to help with the tree! I don't feel deprived though and I did let the boys hang their own baubles on - just moved them about a bit later!

OnZephyrstdayofXmas · 05/12/2004 21:21

lol you sound just like me!! I like it to look good and everything in the right place lol dp is saying 'but gabi did it you have to leave it'
You've just made a very good point about having their own tree!!! never thought of that - made a note for next year!!

carolHELSInger · 05/12/2004 21:23

We always wait until after 17th as it is dd's birthday then. Xmas starts as soon as nirthday has been and gone.

dawnie1 · 05/12/2004 21:53

I LOVE Christmas so yep the tree went up yesterday and is now fully decorated. DD (aged 14 months) hadn't seen it until after her nap when 'Hey Presto' it magically appeared. She was mesmerised all evening, kept pulling me to the tree and showing me the baubles, lights etc. Rest of decorations go up next weekend.

RonnieTinselBaby · 05/12/2004 22:34

DS & I out ours up on Sat (4th), and all the decorations around the house, ltho not as many as prev years as I'm 8+ months preg and couldnt be arsed in doing loads.

DS loves it, keeps saying "when is santa coming"

carolHELSInger · 05/12/2004 22:38

I took DD (2 in 2 wks) to see Santa yesterday - she wouldn't go near him until he offered her a gift when she went straight to him said "thankyou" and "bye" all in one sentence an promptly left the grotto!! (thats my girl - take men for what they can offer you then leave them waiting for the next one to come along) Grin

TeriS · 05/12/2004 22:48

We put our tree up Sat, although half of the baubles seem to have disspaeared already - found some of them in DS's toybox!!

DS (2) thought the lights were great, but is petrified of anything with father christmas on it, which we have had to remove from the house to stop him crying. Anyone else got a child frightened of santa?!! Am starting to think it not best to tell him stories about santa coming down the chimney, as is likely to freak him out even more...

WonderCod · 01/12/2006 15:51

.

realjolly · 01/12/2006 21:56

Well, our tree and x-mas decorations are up in the attic, and dh away till 15th...so, will have to wait till then
Shall make up for it by baking some Gingerbread bikkies with the Kids
