the only advice i can give is google the error message ... this should give you the answer

NutRoast · 04/12/2004 16:20

I'm not a techy but I googled the error message and this is what I got:-

To resolve this issue, use the following steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type *.pwl and then click Find Now.
  3. In the list of found files, right-click each file, and then click Delete. Repeat step 3 until all of the .pwl files are deleted.
  4. On the File menu, click Close.
  5. Restart the computer. The password list files are re-created automatically when you log on to Windows.

If these solutions don't work:

Try setting the virtual memory settings to default
Right click on My Computer
Select properties
Select performance
Select virtual memory at the bottom
Make sure it is set to "Let Windows manage my virtual memory settings"

Run Scandisk set to thorough and then run Defragmenter

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but when my last pc did this once, it was checked by a friend and found to have about 3 viruses. Needed a new motherboard. Your friedn might be luckier, mighte have solvable problem, but it sounds identicat to when mine died.

Hi popsy Dh is thinking - back in mo!

OLittleYurtofBethlehem · 04/12/2004 19:32

DH says he doesnt know much about DOS but has suggested this

1 type in: win
2 press enter - that should reopen windows
3 if that doesnt work it will give you a message as to why not - DH says tell him the message why not and he will try to help some more

OR

1 another option is to try the "three fingered salute" press control alt and delete all at the same time - which should restart the computer in windows
2 if on restarting the computer asks do you want to startup in safe mode say NO!

One of those two methods should do the trick!
Once he is in windows he should not go online. He should close down any antivirus and security software. Go to scandisk (in systems tools) run scandisk on standard - if it comes back with any repairs tell it to repair automatically. Then enable security and antivirus software and run a virus check.

HTH

wil pass on the info and report back - he seems to have done most things though....
