we played with salt dough yesterday - made a hell of a mess though! They had the potato masher in it and eveything!

schneebly · 05/02/2008 09:54

we also do a lot of singing as I (try to)play the guitar.

ive got a pack of cards with '52 after school activities' printed on them...

wanna borrow? would help get the no-tv routine off the ground to fill the time interestingly...

schneebly · 05/02/2008 09:55

thinking of more...

make the dinner together
play board games
hide and seek
dressing up
gardening
painting/drawing

SnappyLaGore · 05/02/2008 09:56

they could pick a preferred activity themselves before school or at w/end and give you time to get any props or whatever needed.

Twiglett · 05/02/2008 09:56

ooo snappy I've got that somewhere .. although I htink what I have is odd cards strewn around the house .. in fact I can already see one stuck on the chalkboard

We do things related to the time of year.
Tonight we will make pancakes, later in the week we will attempt to make rat masks for chinese new year, as your children are a bit older you could have a themed chinese tea and make lanterns etc.
Next week for half term we will do valentine related stuff and a project related to feeding the birds.

I didn't realise people did these things after school? Bad Mummy award coming my way!

hana · 05/02/2008 12:11

we don't do much afterschool. don't get back til about 340 most days and I start getting supper ready by 430. 2 out of 5 days they are with childminder/afterschool club, 1 day is a regular play date and have to say, it's usually the tv or they play games with each other while I'm sorting out bookbags/lunchbags/uniform etc etc
would be NICE to do fun things

princessosyth · 05/02/2008 12:23

Should have said we do stuff after nursery not after school I doubt we would have time or the inclination to do anything after a full day!

SnappyLaGore · 05/02/2008 15:38

actually, aside from dinner eating/tidying, a touch of homework sometimes, a bit of cbeebees and bath/bed routine, we dont do much after school/nursery either tbh.

theyre not home till 4ish, then bathtime is at 7-latest.
