would you do this?

if you worked nights and your child was always in bed and asleep before you went out and never wakes up, would you give your neighbour who was wellknown to your child the baby monitor to keep an ear out on the offchance that they do wake up and a key to get in on that offchance rather than giving up work? (a babysitter costs more than i earn an hour)

£3 more per night, for the reassurance!?

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 05/02/2008 15:58

Qouting NA "i knew it was wrong from the beginning and that it is just one of those things you have to accept but i am just one of these people who wants to know why why why"

Isn't it obvious??

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 15:58

it would be £10 more a night not £3...

So this hypothetical question had we all said yes would have turned into a possibility?
Having read most of the posts now,i have to say im disgusted and you are way off the mark with your parenting ideals.....all your scenarios end up being altered to suit the sway of the mn opinion.
a job in a bar doesnt pay anything like a job in the day where childcare and other facilities exist.....if you want a job start living in the real world and taking responsibility seriously-btw if u can pay £15 for a babysitter but not £30 for a travel cot you have different priorities to me.
youve wasted a lot of peoples time and empathy with your immature rambling

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/02/2008 16:02

And ignored my first post on here re. your previous involvement with social services etc?

Sorry, as I hate to judge, but you don't seem to know what you want, or listen to any of the advice you ask for.

Why would it be okay to use a 14 year old for one night but not regularly?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 16:07

if the travelcot was a possibility i would have got one - it is obviously cheaper than paying £15 a night. but as i have said twice now - he is a light sleeper and there is no way he would stay asleep in someone's living room.

OP posts:
TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/02/2008 16:09

For a couple of hours, if there was no other option at all, maybe.
But I think if it was regular, even if you trusted her, she will take liberties as she gets more confident, thereby becoming less responsible.

I wouldn't do it in any circumstances, but obviously others would.

dippydeedoo · 05/02/2008 16:09

no mf i didnt say that at all dont twist my words ...im a ualified NNEB who took a job working in a hotel so i could work hours to suit my family and i know that i couldnt earn what id earnt before ....and i have to say it is hard work ...what i was suggesting is there is many jobs from working in a supermarket to woring in an office that involve day work and access to professional childcare.... dont get on my back about comments i didnt make.
a responsible parent would take a job and find adequate childcare than a job in a bar involving leaving a child at home alone ....oh i forgot her next door would have the intercom ....

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 05/02/2008 16:10

I agree dippy

dippydeedoo · 05/02/2008 16:10

obviously i meant working in a office nobody is suggesting you should sell yourself

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/02/2008 16:10

Does your neighbour not want to be paid?

Also, If he is a light sleeper whos to say he won't be waking up scared that no one is home and crying?

dippydeedoo · 05/02/2008 16:11

thanyou christmasshinysnowflakes

thelittleElf · 05/02/2008 16:11

So if he's such a light sleeper, your poor neighbour would be in and out of your house ....how very settling for the poor little boy

Oh and another thing - you never answered my question at stupid o'clock last night as to whether your son had suffered with asthma?

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 16:12

like i already said if my boss can't give me more suitable hours i will be looking for another job.

OP posts:
thelittleElf · 05/02/2008 16:12

fabby post dippydeedoo!

dippydeedoo · 05/02/2008 16:12

thats a point devil.....no doubt other mumsnetters will argue a good cry will strengthen his lungs

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 05/02/2008 16:13

What have you done so far?

dippydeedoo · 05/02/2008 16:13

thanks little elf xx

luvaduck · 05/02/2008 16:13

if he is a light sleeper then how do you know he would stay asleep when you were at work - as you stated in your OP

i'm sorry to be harsh but i'm also very concerned about your childs welfare, a few things you have said really worry me.

nappyaddict · 05/02/2008 16:15

he's only a light sleeper if there's noise around him. he doesn't wake usually cos our house isn't noisy.

I ask as if you have been working there a while and your hours have suddenly changed you have rights as your terms of employment are not what you started with.
I am just worried this was a 'hypothetical question' when this is actually what you have been doing and you are now feeling guilty about it?

ChristmasShinySnowflakes · 05/02/2008 16:16

Was that a nebuliser he was wearing in one of your profile pictures Nappy?
