help -- worms in the kitchen!!

I just noticed worms on our kitchen walls! I don't know what they are, really, but they're small (dh says 1/4 inch long), whitish, and absolutely disgusting. I think they're blind but they've obviously come from somewhere and are going God knows where else. Where do they come from? Why are they in the kitchen? Am I that bad at housekeeping? How Clean Is My House?! Not as clean as it should be, obviously, but I didn't think it was THIS bad!HELP!

Are you sure they are worms? They could be fly or moth larvae, are they thin or fat?

KangaSantaMummy · 02/12/2004 18:50

have you got any plants or flowers in the kitchen

or have you in the past????

cariboo · 02/12/2004 18:59

It's an "open plan kitchen" which really means that the kitchen, dining area and living area are all in one big room. I've got lots of plants but the worms are definitely only in the kitchen. I guess they could be larvae but where have they come from?! I'll be calling in the exterminators next and then we can forget all about any Christmas pressies as we'll be broke!

Dp (ex pest controller) wnats to know if they have any similarity to maggots ??? ie length, round at one end going to a point at the other end.

ChristmasCracker · 02/12/2004 19:41

How thick would you say they are ???? Like string or thicker or what ??

princessinapeartree · 02/12/2004 19:49

sound like maggots to me...
they must be breeding somewhere, have you got any food stuck down the back of a unit nearby? can you take your bin liner out and look in the bin, or look underneath your bin or your bin lid?

eurghghghghg

Just logged on again. Maggots, you say?! I hate to even consider it, but these worms match the description. They're quite thin, pointed at one end... but there were only about 4 of them and they were on different walls. My bin is "sparkling" (clean it often because of inquisitive toddler) but all our kitchen units are built in. I must admit that I haven't cleaned the oven in months. Thanks, everyone. All suggestions are very much appreciated.
