Mumsnet has got me feeling all festive today, so...

Let's share some Xmas memories with each other....

I don't have anything amazing to share personally, but.....

I'll never forget getting a sindy wardrobe one year , the absolute certainty that Father Xmas existed and coming out of hospital the day before Xmas eve with my new baby girl and how happy I felt that every xmas from now on would be wonderful with her in our lives.

Ooh, I had a Sindy wardrobe one Christmas too. I just loved it. Was yours white with gold Ss on it and kind of curly tops to the doors?

Sorry, have I veered off-topic here?

Jennisaurus · 01/12/2004 22:57

I remember the first time I got pissed on Christmas day. I was 17 and ended up snogging this bloke I fancied at work. Oooh the life! Sorry thats not very festive, but it did make it v.good!

Oh and the year my mum and dad bought me tiny tears. Ahhh.

JoolsTide · 01/12/2004 22:59

I remember the Christmas I dressed up as Father Christmas (cotton wool beard and cushion filled belly) - my kids were all in their twenties - I made them come and sit on my knee and tell me what they wanted for Christmas - it freaked them out (it was funny tho!)

StuffTheMagicTurkey · 01/12/2004 23:00

Maybe someone can help me here, but there was a Christmas in the early 70's (possibly 71 or 72?) where there was very heavy snow. I was about 6 and asked Santa for snow on Christmas Day and he sent it. Magic .

ThomCatsAreNotJustForXmas · 01/12/2004 23:02

That's the very one TinselTamum

Errrr, Jools, any reason you waited till they were 20 to dress up for them apart from being a nutter

My mam then asked me to open the curtains, (patio door curtains) and there outside was a class little motorbike with stickers on of eyes and i LOVED it.!

This is a recent memory. I went to my cousin's house for Christmas day. I was wearing a red dress and red high heeled shoes. There were so many adults and children that we had to have the meal in two sittings. We fed the kids first and then the adults all sat down. The kids were so excited about all being together that they all forgot to come back for pudding. Maybe it was all the cr*p that they were eating all day that made them forget. We drank a lot, we ate a lot, we screamed with laughter, we shouted, we played mad board games and shouted some more. We danced, we ate more food, we sang and we made a plan to see more of each other during the year. We went home at about 3am. In the February it occurred to me (after I couldn't put the bins out)that my period had been due on Christmas day and it hadn't come. I thought that the weight gain was because of the Christmas excess. DD2 was born at the end of that August.

I have a lovely one when I was quite small of getting a cardboard sweet shop, big enough for me to get in and serve people - it had little scales and my mum had filled little jars with all sorts of sweeties for me to "sell"!

I found out when I grew up that they had been out to midnight mass and gone to a drinks party afterwards, come home rather the worse for wear and spent hours trying to construct the sweet shop, I do vaguely remember that they both fell asleep on the sofa that afternoon....

JoolsTide · 01/12/2004 23:15

the others aren't very exciting TC - one year I did a massive bran tub with ribbons on all the pressies - It was in a box like you get tumble dryer in.
Another year I did loads of poems that were clues to where the pressies were hidden - it took them AGES - some were in the garden!
Do you remember when Madonna starting the T-shirt thing with Kylies name on in sequins - that year I made myself one with Santa on it.

SilentBite · 01/12/2004 23:16

MarsselectionboxLady · 01/12/2004 23:18

I like silentbite. Don't change, those that don't know will just have to check the festive dictionary

colditzcolditzcold · 01/12/2004 23:20

It was christmas 1984, I got a cabbage patch doll. Her name was Kally Prudence, and she had a belly button. Mum still has her hidden somewhere.
