As a first time parent and newcomer to MumsNet, I got some way into the '16 Tips for first time parents' article, pleased at my discovery before I realised it was a sponsored article. "Bloody hell", I blurted. What's that called – an editorial?

Then while perusing the rest of the 'Latest' posts, I have to say, I'm gobsmacked just how many are sponsored. I know advertising is key online and of all the forms of advertising, editorials are the least annoying, I'm still overwhelmed by the scale of it. (I know there's a premium tier with 'less' advertising.) I suppose I was looking for a bit of haven – an altruistic place where good citizenry rules, not to be duped on the first click.

Perhaps I'll become inured to it. I just wondered, is that typical or is MumsNet experiencing a spike at the moment?

Many thanks.
