ds2 will be leaving school in a acouple of months and although he has been offered a full time trainee place at the salon he works 2 days at (he wants to be a hair stylist) its a bit too far to travel to every day so we need to get a CV done so he can start sending them out.
ive never had to do a cv for myself so am not very clued up and as ds is severly dyslexic we both need some help with it!!

have him make an appointment with the Connexions advisor at school. I suppose part of their job description is this kind of thing?

he has frequent appointments with connexions lady but nothing seems to be moving very quickly!
he needs to get his CV out asap as there will be loads of people wanting trainee places in a couple of months.

has he actually said something to the effect of 'I need my CV ready for Saturday. Can you help me with it tomorrow. say for an hr after shcool?' sometimes it isn't easy to ask the right question. iyswim.

I don't know waht connexions people actually do. with his SEN provision, speak to the SEN coordinator on his behalf and ask the coordinator to liaise with connexions? Teh SENCO may actually be able to tell you if this is in teh remit of Connexions.

skimmed your other thread. Connexions is connected to the LEA but his advisor will possibly not be a member of the school staff. SENCO is independent of his HoY.

hmm yeah he prob hasnt asked the right questions!

a cv needs:
on cvs people generally put name, current age, dob, nationality.

for experience he can put any part time jobs he has done or is currently doing from most current.

any achievements he has had in school.
any voluntary participation he has done in or out of shcool. eg. at our school we have about 6 lads who dedicatedly sell Fairtrade stuff on a thursday lunch and make up Christmas hampers to flog.

any participation in activities o/s normal teaching eg: participating in an event about how languages are useful in the business world.

he can then put any clubs he may be a member of o/s shcool.

Every year our students update their 'record of achievement' which is a folder containing any awards or certificates they have received in the past school year and they write a paragraph or so about things they participate in. it is packaged up in a professional looking folder which they can take along to interviews. I suspect he should have something like this at school. ask him.
