Missing sons birthday weekend

I'm not sure where to post on this.
My son is3 on a Monday. I had planned on having family over the weekend before his birthday but have discovered my husband has booked a surprise weekend away (£500 for the hotel which is another thread in itself) for just the 2 of us.
I am so upset that we can't have a family thing for my son but also realise my husband was trying to do something nice in surprising me.
I can't tell him I know but how to I handle it all?

Have a birthday thing the following weekend?

family parties are brilliant, but the exact date doesn’t matter.

Does your husband know you had something planned for that weekend? Can’t you do the family thing the weekend after seeing neither weekend is his actual birthday either way?

Thanks for replying! Yes we could do it the weekend after however I'm due to work night shift on the Saturday so less than ideal but I guess I'll need to suck it up.
He does know I want to do a family thing but doesn't think he'll know one way or the other!
I think part of the issue is the £500 for 2 nights in a hotel- we won't be able to do anything while there at that cost!
