MIL is helping out with DD's brownies, she used to be a cub leader but needs some help with ideas for games and activities.

Need some lively games, quiet games and different activities or theme nights. Any ideas really, it is a new pack and things were a bit out of hand, MIL has gone in as a sort of senior advisor as they are all pretty unexperienced.

She is helping them get a bit of structure to the nights but needs some new ideas.

TIA.

Anything that gets the girls laughing will be great.

The guiding association do County Training days and these are usually a great place to learn some new games.

one of my packs favourite games at the moment is Hedgehogs:
The girls crawl around the floor being Hedgehogs. Guider shouts "hedgehogs hibernate" and the girls curl up into a ball. Guider covers one girl with a blanket
(or tablecloth) shouts "hedgehogs awake" The covered hedgehog stays still and the others have to guess who is covered up. You can cover up 2 for a greater challenge.

or
Shark attack
make a circle on floor with a skipping rope of wool. this is the island! The girls have to swim around the room and the guider shouts "shark attack" the girls have to stand on the island. Any not in the circle are out! tell the girls to start swimming again and make the cirlce/island smaller each time. Start with a circle that everyone fits into and reduce its size each time. Can be a team game to see how the girls work together!

What about Tin Can Cooking? Was always my favourite at Guides....?

Scramble · 25/01/2008 23:51

Thanks I will print them out for the games file, sounds like the kind of thing they will enjoy.

The proper leaders are going on a training weekend soon so that should give them some ideas and help with structuring the nights.

What is Tin can cooking? remember we are talking about a pack of wild in the process of being tamed brownies .

Tin Can Cooking:

Get empty washed out tin of beans/soup
Drill holes in sides - usually have to get them to do this at home and bring tin in

Get smallish candle and put inside tin

Pour little oil on top of tin and leave to heat up by candle

Pour ready made pancake mix on top of tin, leave to cook and you have prefectly round little pancakes!!

Sometimes does not always work out but is really good fun trying!

ooh, we do tin can cooking slightly differently.
mini apple pie, peg, oil, tealight and pancake mix. eat pie, attach pie tin to peg ad use that as your frying pan over the tea light.

Oh yes relay games are a good idea, they are trying to do things to encourage the sixes to become more of a team become more interested in gaining points for their sixes.

I wouldn't say that my Brownie pack is the much to write home about (I've been a a unit helper since September). What we tend to do is badge work, then some games, and Brownie ring at the end.

Your MIL and her other leaders should definitely go to a county day. We are having our one in a couple of weeks and it looks really good.

There are some good websites for sharing ideas. I use the one on Facebook, and it has links to more established ones. The Girlguiding website is helpful too.

My fave game is the physical version of paper, scissors, stone and is called Giants, Wizards, Trolls. Divide up the pack into two sides - it doesn't matter how many on each side you could have 2 on one side and 20 on the other. Each side huddles together to decide what they are going to be and after a count of 3 both sides do their 'action'.

Giants - action is arms raised menacingly in the air and shouting GRRRRR! - they beat the Wizards because they are scaring them away.

Wizards - action is pointing a pretend wand and saying Ping! - they beat the Trolls because they are casting a spell on them.

Trolls - action is jumping up and down and making a grunting noise - they beat the Giants because they are stamping on their feet.

Great fun. Best of 10 wins.

Thanks I will add that to the list.

Hoping they all come back inspired. MIl is not going she is def taking a backseat advisory roll, she doesn't want to get too involved. Personally I think it was just what she is needing .

Printeed off a big list for MIl and she was so chuffed, she remembered a lot of them, once she saw the list.
