eBay payment on hold after selling iPhone?

Very random, sorry guys! I just sold my old iPhone 12 Pro on eBay and my payment has been put on hold until I provide eBay with a tracking number. Is this normal? I’m new to selling on eBay so I have no idea and I hope it’s not fraud! It says the buyer has paid the amount and eBay has put it on hold until I provide them with the tracking number. Anyone help?

Do you sell often on eBay?

I think it could be cos it’s a high valued item. I’m assuming it didn’t go too cheap

I've had funds put on hold if a buyer says it hasn't been received - but it states clearly that's the reason why. They release the funds once the tracking says it's delivered.

If it's been done randomly I guess it's probably because iPhones are high-risk items for scams. Do you have a selling history on eBay?

I’ve just started selling on eBay, I haven’t had to add a tracking number before. But I got it now I think! Yep, it sold for £550 so that’s probably why

This is the email I got, it says the payment has been received but it’s on hold and will be sent into my account immediately once I’ve provided eBay with a tracking number.

Aw yeah, if you've just started selling it'll be that - iPhones are the scammers favourite unfortunately. Hope it goes smoothly for you.

Hi @dreamerkr I just wanted to see if you got it resolved as exactly the same thing has happened to me

ellebelle93 · 28/09/2022 23:24

This looks like a scam! There's spelling errors in that email. I had a very similar thing happen to me through PayPal.

Cece92 · 28/09/2022 23:25

If your a new seller then this is normal. It's cause of the price of the item too xx

RagzRebooted · 28/09/2022 23:26

That's clearly not a real ebay email, it has far too many errors.

RagzRebooted · 28/09/2022 23:28

If you enter the tracking details on the eBay app, it should be fine (I'd expect you to do that anyway for an item of that value) as I can't see how that could scam you. But don't click on any links in the email.
