my mum has been invited to an 18th birthday party. It's kind of a family link - my brother's partner's daughter. She doesn't know her too well but obviously wants to get her a pressie and is pretty stumped. So am I! Any ideas anyone? Not sure how much she wants to spend - I would guess £20-£30. The girl is very intelligent (got an interview at Oxford next week); quite studious but still reasonably trendy - but not ott trendy. She's very grown up for her age - partly, I think, because she has had a lot of illness to deal with as a teenager. I think she's thinking of taking a gap year. She's lovely - so what do you think?

A pamper session at a local beauty salon? - manicure/massage/peridcure/Spa treatment type of thing?

Does she know where the Gap year is being spent? If so, a traveller's guide to the place, or something related and useful for that?
