Desi, sorry got side-tracked - the tale of the pencil sharpener.
The children in DS's class were told they couldn't use a pencil sharpener because they were too messy. Anyway, DS is 7 and didn't think to tell me this important piece of information and, finding his pencil sharperner in his rucksack and not in his pencil case, I put it back in the pencil case, tutting under my breath about how he would have lost it if it weren't for me and my vigilance.
Teacher saw it next day at school, told he shouldn't still have it and confiscated it. Poor DS probably wondered where it had come from. Few hours later one of the girls saw it on the side of the room and gave it back to DS. The teacher saw it again and told DS off for disobeying and having told him twice that he shouldn't have it.
She made a big deal of it, said she would keep him in for some of lunchtime. DS in floods of tears (probably wondering how the bloody pencil sharpner kept showing up) and she had to tell me that he was being kept in for misbehaving, like he had maimed somebody.
I just thought it was overkill and not worthy of the song and dance. Coupled with we had a run in last week about spellings as it would appear DS is redoing all the spelling tests he did last year despite getting 9 or 10 out of 10.
She is a silly girl and I can say that as one who is probably old enough to be her mother!
