Next door smoking weed

Next door neighbours son is smoking weed every day either in his bedroom with the window open (next to my DDs nursery meaning I have had to stop opening her window) or outside in the garden (it's terraced housing). He has mates round to smoke it as well. It's unbearable. It travels all through my house and is making me miserable.

I have a 21 month old and expecting another baby next month. We were due to move house this year but our buyer pulled out so we are waiting until next year. To think I have to live next door to this kid for another god knows how many months kills me. Very grateful to own a house but not right next to this idiot.

Their house is under town and country rental (council I believe) and we own ours. Nothing wrong with council houses however when they're smoking class b drugs that's where I draw the line. Especially as we worked hard to buy our house and shouldn't be putting up with this any longer. We don't smoke and I would never disrespect someone else with the smell if I did. He doesn't even hide it or go to the end of the garden. It's getting out of hand.

My husband has mentioned the issue a few times to his mum. Nothings changed. Over the past year but he still continues to smoke and the smell is driving me insane. It burns my throat. I'm worried about the safety of my both my kids. They also have a little girl (about 4 or 5) living there and I worry for her too!

I've taken the choice to report it to the police and town and country.

Town and County rang me today and said they need to contact the tenant (the mum) to tell her someone has reported her son for smoking weed.

I know I've done the right thing. But I feel sick with worry that this is going to start an unpleasant "war" and being heavily pregnant I'm now regretting my decision. The council said they'll give them a two week warning for him to stop smoking weed. If he doesn't then it will go to court.
And my name will be used. This is terrifying me.

Can someone speak some sense to me and tell me I've done the right thing.

Thanks x

You've done the right thing. Your husband has warned them before and nothing has been done!! And yet they continue, so their fault.

Don't worry about name being used. Are you sure it can't be anonymous?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 02/09/2022 15:02

It would be pretty obvious it’s you even if you hadn’t given a name.

PuggyMum · 02/09/2022 15:04

The fact you've asked them several times they'll know it's you anyway.
I would probably appeal to the mum one more time and say I'm sorry I've had to report this but we have asked over and over.

I have no objection to weed per se but the smell of it is vile and knocks me sick too so I totally get where you are coming from. My neighbours son smokes it at the end of the garden so if we're out the smell wafts over.

They will totally know it's me oh god ha ha! I just can't deal with the fact my name may be given. I can deal with them assuming it was me. Does that make sense?

I just got off the phone with the police 101 again and they said data protection won't let that happen, so if the council were to give my name I'd have a case against them. Wow what fun. Not the kind of stress I want at the end of pregnancy.

Oh fuck off. She wants to live her life without breathing someone else's illegal drugs and without her DC breathing it. It's not unreasonable.

Weed smokers are antisocial, they could get high by eating it instead then nobody would know what they're upto because nobody else would be affected. Be better for the poor DC who's living in that house too.

Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels · 05/07/2023 04:39

OP you could report them to SS because of their DC being exposed to it too.
