road and pavement changes

There have been some road 'improvements' in my local area over the past couple of years.

Pavements have been widened and in some places the road and pavement have been levelled and paved over so there are no longer any markings to indicate that there is a road. So a person could be walking along a pavement and not realise that they have reached a road and then not look out for traffic.

I have googled but cannot find any reason for doing this - I would have thought it is a safety issue. Also, there are road markings - two white filled in triangles - and again, despite googling I cannot find what they mean.

Has anyone else seen anything similar or know the reasoning for this? Thank you

Read up about shared surfaces. They are designed to reduce car dominance, cars drive slower because of the uncertainty. Pedestrians have priority.
