How do postal orders from Ireland work?!

.... got sent one as payment for something, but the PO man told dh he couldn't cash it. I'm not going to need a PO account am I? I had to close mine because there wasn't enough in it! I've never not been able to cash one before. It is in pounds sterling, so thats not a prob. What do I do if I cant cash it, as dh has already sent off the item?!!

Not sure Ixel so bumping this for you. Any Po Ive been sent from Ireland Ive managed to csah no problem. hope someone else knows more

Is it crossed (two vertical lines)? If crossed, it can only be paid into a bank or similar account iirc

I'm in Ireland and have send PO's to people. you should be able to lodge it to your bank accoutn with no problem.
