Anybody know how to waltz?

DH is in local Ops and Drams production of My Fair Lady next spring and the poor sod has to waltz. He can't dance to save his life, 2 left feet is better than what he's got.

I have a sort of vague idea that it goes

one two three one two three

with the feet going

L R L R L R

and round and round as you go. (I am obviously a superb dancer in comparison.) Does that sound about right?

(Last show was Me and My Girl. He had to tap dance in that. )

(DS1 is also in it, he's going to be one of the flying dustmen with dustbin lids, fortunately he can dance!)

Oh, thanks, guys! (brilliant that it's the teachers who come up with help!)

There is a 7 minute video on the Come Dancing site, I will run that for DH when he has time - it has where to put your hands (ahem) and everything. If he watches that a few times it will help loads.

and if he wants to be really flash,

on the one count you bend your legs and the 2,3 you rise onto your toes....

JanH · 26/11/2004 20:42

Yes - I was watching them dipping, pops! I think he will have it all on concentrating on moving his feet right though

can tell you how to jive and cha cha etc aswell,,,,

ds (2) can do the cha cha, the gay gordons and a version of the tango.....he has a very SAD mummy!!!

JanH · 26/11/2004 20:44

Oh he will be in demand later. Men who know how to move are not that common!

I hope you aren't tangoing too strenuously these days though?

he loves to shout 'dancing mammy - rock rock cha cha cha' and 'i a gay gordon'
ahem

JanH · 26/11/2004 20:47

ahem indeed. Hope he doesn't shout that when you're out and about!

oh no, when we are out and about he shouts ' my favourite is snuggle the bay-boos' (boobs)

anyway!
back to the waltz!

Ladies start with their right foot, men with their left.

Ladies Back side together Back side together
R L R L R L

Forward side together For side tog
R L R L R L

Reverse for men

However the waltz in My Fair Lady is more of a viennise waltz (I was in it as a child) with a

1 2 123 123 sort of rhythm

or back forward back side together back side together

JanH · 26/11/2004 23:13

ooooooh, nooooooo, Julie, it's more complicated???

Actually there is a bit on the Come Dancing website about the Viennese waltz so we'll have a look at that too, thank you!
