calling all contact lens wearers...

want to know what my options are...

going off for an eye test tommorrow at boots! eeeek! and definitely need a new pair of CL's. I've always worn gas permeable lenses... and not bothered with disposable ones as they always looked much more expensive...

however... just been surfing and came across Visiondirect UK.. where they seem to offer dailies etc at a huge lower price then boots
Boots Acuvue Advance 6 pairs - £45 (plus advantage points!)
Visiondirect - £33 (if i'm reading everything right!)

does this sound right? i'm assuming there are tons of other sites out there... what do you think will work out cheaper...? how much are contact lenses these days (gas permeable!?) What do you do?

thanks!

I also wore gas permeable lenses for years until I developed a form of conjuntivitis which I couldn't get rid of, and which came back when I started wearing the lenses again after 6 months.

I now wear monthlies which I order off the net - I still have my contact lens check-up once a year but I ask them for my prescription and then order them directly. For me, the quality of sight is not as good (I've got astigmatism) and obviously they're more expensive but saying all that, my alternative was glasses only.

I am very shortdsighted (and astimagtism) I wear monthly disposalbles with toric weighting. I pay £15 a month with specsavers and get discounts on any glasses i need.
Worth every penny to me as my optitician is very 'flexible' and lets me have a week's daily disposables (which aren't quite strong enough for me) when I do festivals and worry about hygiene etc more

Boots is very expensive I found. I get mine from Specsavers so that I get free checks etc. FWIW I found Boots charged for their in initial contact lens appointment unless I took out a contact lens direct debit (which I couldn't take out on my type of lens - i have astigmatism) and I wasn't warned about this prior to the appointment.

I wear monthly soft lenses but because I only wear them for 3 days a week, not 7 I keep them for about 2 months which makes them last longer making them cheaper. But I'm tight like that - ha!

Ordering online is also a good option if your eyes are relatively normal.

Boots don't offer 4 points per £ at the Opticians, as they do in stores. I think it used to be 1 point per £ when I wore contacts...
