BT on strike today

A friend's DH has told us that BT are going on strike today and Monday. Apparently Openreach engineers, BT engineers and administrative staff are all striking, but I haven't heard this at all in the news. Does anyone know?
I'm guessing that it means that faults won't be fixed and new services won't be connected but it's not just BT customers that could be affected as most of their competitors use the BT network too.
Thinking about it, the consequences of telecoms services not being fixed could be really serious for businesses, as so many things other than phones work over the BT network, like internet, card payment machines, IT, mobile calls.
I am really surprised I hadn't heard of it, but he insists that it's true. Could it be possible that BT are repressing news of the strike, or do the media think that it's not worth mentioning.
I'm off to work now, and just hoping it doesn't cause us any problems.

Yes BT are striking today. It has been on the news albeit briefly whenever the rail strikes are mentioned. I think another rail strike this Saturday too and train drivers strike 13th Aug.

Its been in the news, I heard about this towards the start of the week, there is no benefit to BT repressing the news of a strike

The irony of that statement if telecoms were down due to strike action 😂

Surely the irony is the thread being started in the first place?!

ticktickticktickBOOM · 29/07/2022 10:31

No-one suggested that telecoms were down. No irony to scoff at.

Yes, my partner works for BT and is striking today (and Monday). He has my full support!
The CEO gave himself a 35% payrise meanwhile the call centres are a shambles.

Exactly

storm in a tea cup

ticktickticktickBOOM · 29/07/2022 10:41

It's not a storm in a teacup if you need an engineer today or theres a local fault. That would put businesses out massively.

BigGapMum · 29/07/2022 15:26

I think this strike won't have be a huge amount of impact until faults happen and don't get fixed and then it will really be noticed. I don't think people have individually realised the implications of telecommunications going down, and that's why I'm surprised it hasn't had more media coverage than it has. An awful lot of telecommunication travels through BT network.

I passed a few of them on the side of the road with placards.

all very half-assed

i felt a bit embarrassed for them. My daughter asked “are they the train drivers, teachers or barristers striking?”. 😂

BigGapMum · 29/07/2022 15:34

Ohthatsexciting seems to have an attitude problem. 🙄

That’s quite a leap

you started a thread about whether your friend was right about the by strike. I googled and was inundated with newspaper headlines about it.

And yes - I am somewhat a little…. Blasé about strikes atm! As I think many are
