Anyone else just slightly in love with Lance? I have only just caught up with him - having taped the first two episodes ( I'd love to claim my hectic social life prevented me from watching them live but in actual fact on both evenings I found the prospect of staying up till 10pm too much for me!).
I must admit that I wasn't mad keen to watch it ( thus the taping) as from the advertising campaign I'd been very something 'ist' ( not actually sure what particular prejudice this displays!)and decided that an Army major with a doubled barrel name who wanted to go on a programme like this was bound to be a pompous prat !
Well so far I'm pleasantly surprised - I can quite imagine if I were still a twenty something on the pull I'd be fairly smitten if sent on a blind date with him...Am also feeling smug as I correctly predicted the two who would be thrown out this week - haven't yet sunk so low as to vote for one!

I think he is a bit of a cad myself!!!!

ken · 02/11/2002 20:00

I think if he does not find the woman of his dreams out of the women taking part, then he'll have loads of others fighting over him afterwards.
The sad thing is, we have two 30 somthing male friends, who are funny, not unattractive, have their own homes, and above all would love to have a partner and childern, but claim they just don't meet any women.

bayleaf · 03/11/2002 09:54

Ken - get them to give 'lonely hearts' a try - I met dh through Private Eye's column - we're both fairly normal but were late 20s ( me )/early 30s (him) and didn't meet people thru work. He's 6 foot, very attractive, blond hair blue eyed and has a very well paid job - so he certainly wasn't the 'saddo' many people predicted I'd meet!

he cries.... its just not manly!

agaazaa · 03/11/2002 23:30

I know Lance. (friend of dh). None of the girls on the thing are right, they must be 6ft tall. blonde, white, a gymnast (for sexual positions)with a public school education, daddy will be loaded, girl will be intelligent and OH so grateful that she is with him.

yip - she doesn't exist!

still when you know the guy it makes fun viewing, and we cringe about this programme more than The Office!!

Also no doubt in my mind he will have shagged Ulrika.

isitbedtimeyet · 04/11/2002 16:54

Agazaa, had to comment I too guessed which ones he would get rid of.One was the most intelligent one there and the other was the doesn't suffer fools gladly type, and very assertive. He is so shallow,he comes across to me as the type of guy who wants a pretty dolly that giggles when you pull the string. As for him liking a sense of humour,he said he kept Yvonne in because she was laughing the whole time,is that his idea of a sense of humour? If I was in that house I would have been out of there like a shot as soon as I met him as at first all he could find to say to the women were things to do with their appearance.Yuk.

grommit · 04/11/2002 17:23

Ken - where do your 30 something friends live - I have a 30 something friend looking for love...in the Surrey area. Sorry folks - not trying to turn this into a dating site but it is nice to get away from mumsy things sometimnes...

bayleaf · 04/11/2002 21:02

Agaazaa - Oh how disapointing - so he is exactly what I thought he would be before the programme! I was completely taken in by all those wives of his friends/colleagues who said he was lovely and they'd run away with him at the first sign of interest!
Grommit - why not? Us boring marrieds have to get our excitement vicariously thesedays!

agaazaa · 05/11/2002 05:16

Never mind! It still makes good viewing.

I actually cringed all that date bit in the swimming pool, would you ever?! well I cant any more, 2 kids, hold it in, only swimsuits with tummy support for me!

missdilema · 14/11/2002 13:46

I missed it last week, does anyone know who it was who just left and why please?

bluestar · 14/11/2002 15:27

Joy & Mariella left last week. Joy, not so much in common; Mariella, I think she was too 'deep' for Lance. Did you watch last night? Much more bitching!!

Bobbins · 29/11/2002 00:07

HA HA HA

ROFL

Good on you Jeannie

Lance...you dream of Jeannie

God ...I really disliked that smug cow Nicola...no doubt she'd still have him

Hurrah (henry - lance...whatever)...what a good ending to a crap programme

Hilary · 29/11/2002 09:53

Oh, I didn't see last night. Is that it? Did he choose Jeannie?

Enid · 29/11/2002 09:58

Yeah and she dumped him!

Bobbins · 29/11/2002 10:14

And Nicola was convinced she was going to win. She did everything RIGHT. Lance was gutted. Jeannie dumped him because she felt he had tried to placate everyone and hadn't given her enough indication earlier that it was her that he really liked.

OOH I did laugh. I only started watching last week.

Hilary · 29/11/2002 12:44

So what happened? He chose Jeannie over Nicola, then Jeannie dumped him, end of series?? I wish I had seen it!

Bobbins · 29/11/2002 13:04

Lance took both Jeannie and Nicola on separate dates to meet his friends and family. His Mum & Dad liked them both but thought Jeannie was more 'fiesty'...in a positive way. He seemed to be more interrested and animated around Jeannie. At the end of his day with Jeannie, he asked her in for a night cap...champers(?) and he leant over and kissed her. FINALLY.

Next day Lance has to go and dump Nicola. She says in her interview that she would be really surprised if she wasn't picked, and if Jeannie had got a kiss. She was very overly confident. And I'm sure her plummy accent was put on to impress Lance and his family. She looked upset and jealous...thought they were meant to BE!

Jeannie meanwhile, was saying she was having second thoughts because he had never given her any encouraging signals and had tried to keep all the girls happy. She didn't like this (I reckon she just thought he was a crap snog). So then Lance comes and says he wants her and she says she doesn't want him!

Nicola comes in and looks like she wants to pick up the pieces...but says she won't play second best. Lance looks longingly at Jeannie.

I laugh my socks off!!!

jasper · 29/11/2002 19:40

I saw this for the first time ever last night - totally gripping stuff, and you could not script a better ending ( unless those of you in TV know this is exactly what happened!)
Best bit for me was Nicola (who was not picked) saying that yes she was dissapointed not to be chosen but she would not be anyone's second best.
It was completely compelling.
Not sure why Ulrika was in it - she was totally superfluous.
Thought Lance was very attractive, in spite of myself.

agaazaa · 04/02/2003 17:55

Well??? did I not say he would be shagging Ulrika??

bayleaf · 04/02/2003 20:03

YOu did - but I clearly don't read the right papers as I wasn't aware that he was! Where should I be looking?!?

agaazaa · 05/02/2003 08:51

The Sun, The Mirror, Ok magazine (they are on the cover at the moment as they were at Vic Reeves wedding), Vic obviously wanted just "close" friends there!

Any gossipy magazine and they will be there. I want to know Nicola and Jeannie reactions though. They must have sussed all along as the whole body language with Ulrika changed on TV.
