Did I do the right thing?

I can't stop asking myself if I did the right thing.

Someone I know who Is a friend disclosed medical information to me about someone within the family. I thought for 2 weeks debating what to do ect. I started to wonder if he had discussed my medical stuff with other people and i came to the conclusion in my head that everyone deserves to have privacy regarding what they go to the doctors for. He works at the local doctors and what he did is breaching confidentiality rules. He is now looking like he might lose his job and I feel so bad. He is a friend but he also shouldn't be discussing other people's medical history with me. Did I do the right thing?

I just feel guilty he's going to go through s really tough time and also sad that I'll probably lose my friend but at the same time he shouldn't of told me it's his job to keep things confidential.

He should have thought about the consequences before gossiping and disclosing private information. Many years ago we were going through a really tough financial situation. Our house was very nearly repossessed. A school mum 'friend' had knowledge of this through her job & told everyone at a boozy school event. I went to her employer & pursued it until she lost her job. Never felt a split second if guilt.
