Hi everyone, looking for some advice. It's a long story but I'll keep it as short as possible. I moved house in 2019 me and my ex had not long been together, didn't move in with me but was here all the time. He still had his flat that he shared with his cousin. My ex offered to help me with bills and because he still had his own bills to pay for I asked if he would help with the gas bill. He said he would pay for it and have the dd come out of his bank. We broke up because he was abusive. So at the start of this year I found out he hadn't been paying anything towards the gas bill and I had this huge debt of £851. The gas company is with Calor. They had got in contact saying the gas was going to get disconnected. I had just started my new job so my wages were all over the place. I offered to pay £30 however I ended up replacing 2 tyres on my car and wasn't able to pay the £30. They also asked for an income and expenditure form which I filled out and heard nothing from them.

On the 10th of June I received a letter saying disconnection was happening on the 28th June. I contacted my iva company to ask if I could include this in my iva arrangement. They asked for the paperwork which I sent over. I then contacted Calor and notified them of the paperwork being sent to the iva.

I heard nothing but I wasn't surprised because sometimes it can take the iva company a bit to respond.

Yesterday an engineer came to cap my gas. I got in touch with Calor and tried to come to some arrangement of paying off these arrears so the disconnection wouldn't go ahead. They basically wanted the full amount of £957 or 50%. I had explained that wasn't manageable. There was absolutely no way they were agreeing to anything other than that.

I contacted the iva company to find out what was going on with the documents I sent. They didn't have the documents I sent. I quickly emailed them over and they started the paperwork for Calor to complete.

I then received an email from the legal team at Calor who said that £376 of the debt was put into the iva and I had about £626 to pay. Their agreement was I pay 50% of the £626 which was £312 and have a payment plan of £35 or I pay £86 a month but I wouldn't be able to have my gas reconnected till I had paid 3 months and also I had to pay £138 reconnection fee upfront.

They have my income and expenditure sheet so I'm not quite sure how they could possibly think I'm in any position to be paying that kind of money. I'm a single parent. The gas being disconnected is stopping me from being able to cook food for my child and also give hot baths.

I contacted citizens advice, I've spoken to their consumer team and also the extra help unit and they have all come back to say they cannot help me because Calor is outside of their remit or something. I contacted ofgem who weren't helpful. The energy ombudsman passed me onto the ehu and now they have given me a number to call but they can't get involved till I have logged a complaint with Calor.

I don't have the money they want. I just don't know what to do. I just want some advice so please no negative comments.
