6 - Was he the puppet maker/puppet shop owner in the Pipkins TV programme?

bossykate · 31/10/2002 22:51

gillw, i was thinking pipkin's as in the children's tv program also (hartley hare and mr popov etc) but couldn't quite be sure of the occupation...

if this is completely wrong tack we will look soooo sad!

Fionn · 01/11/2002 08:27

You're right, it was puppet-maker in the programme with Hartley the Hare etc. And Octavia. Can't remember the other names. I used to love it though.

Oooooooooooh, I am so glad I am not the only one who remembers Pipkin's. I used to LOVE it when I was a child. The characters I remember are Hartley the Hare (who had an uncle in the country which was the same puppet wearing a straw hat and a smock!!), Octavia the ostrich who couldn't sing, Pig, who sometimes pretended to be a policeman (bit dodgy!!), Tortoise who looked after the money and a monkey whose name escapes me at the moment. How said am I?!!

I wish they would bring it out on one of those retro Kids programme videos they are doing at the moment. I have already bought the Bod one and the Fingerbobs one thinking my two would love it, but they get bored after about 5 minutes. I think kids are a lot more sophisticated than we used to be!!

GillW · 01/11/2002 09:10

The actor who played Hartley and Tortoise has a website - complete with the Pipkins theme tune!

Its say's there "How would you feel about Pipkins being recommissioned? I'd especially like to hear from you if you have children now, pre-school or older, and would encourage them to watch. Also, would you buy a video of existing programmes?"

Scatterbrain · 01/11/2002 10:22

Lynne33 - the monkey was Topoff !!!
Oh God - I loved Pipkins too and have been doing "Hartley Hare" impressions ever since - bring it back please then people will not look at me so strangely!!

Lynne33 · 01/11/2002 10:32

Scatterbrain - YES!!! Of course!!! I just had a look on the sight GillW mentioned and it's great - brought all those memories flooding back. Don't hold out much hope of them bringing out a video though. The site was last updated in August 1998 - Sob!

jessi · 01/11/2002 11:25

Scatterbrain, my best friend is nicknamed Hartley Hare ever since we were little! She does a great impression too.. I want to see yours!!
