dd currently does Modern, and they take exams for it so follow a particular curriculum, whereas Jazz seems less formal and is more disco and street dancing, at least where she goes.

all my kiddies do dancing, my girls and my boys.

the dance school they attend do all tyoes of dancing, but they don't do jazz, they have modern and as far as I was aware (and what their dance teacher says), there is no difference as such bar the name. another nearby dance school call it mdern-jazz!

If he hasn;t yet tried dancing tho, then go with Kama's suggestion of taster classes. He'll soon come and say the one he likes best (or the teacher may be able to spot the one he suits the best.)

FWIW, my 5yo boy prefers acro, which is dancing with gymnastic type movements. he finds it more energetic.

my 7yo however like street dance, as it is more hip/hoppy.

My DD does jazz they can do modern aswell from about age 8, they do exams in Modern and there seems to be more emphasis on the individual movements whereas jazz as others have said is more informal.

I saw kids doing Acro gymnastics and it looks like a cross between gymnastics and jazz on speed or some other drug.

Take him to a taster lesson of each and see which he likes best. Dd's ballet teacher does Street Jazz which is a sort of combination of the two, I think
