Sorry but I have a problem. I work at home with an iMac, can get along fine usually, but tonight I kicked my printer cable out and now everytime I plug it back into the mac it freezes my screen. Can anyone help. I have so much work to do before I can go to bed!

Sorry if this is obvious and you've tried this, but have you shut down then plugged it in?

pinkmama · 22/11/2004 22:17

hi, thanks, but yes I have, each time I turn it back on the mouse and keyboard are frozen if the printer is plugged in

Try and take your printer cable out again, turn the printer off. Then take the power cable out. Put the printer cable back in, then the power. Restart your computer!

Let me know if it works as I might be able to come up with another solution.

HTH,

Jules

Hi Jules, tried that, but it was still frozen, seems the printer cable overrides the keyboard usb somehow. Take the printer cable out, it works, put it in it freezes, tried numerous combinations of different cables in and out and just can't do it. Frustrating because it has to be something really simple

Did you try unhooking the printer, but leaving the USB cable in the iMac (to determine whether it might be your USB cable)?

hoxtonchick · 22/11/2004 22:35

maomao i just e-mailed you

pinkmama · 22/11/2004 22:36

it doesnt seem to freeze it if the cable is in the mac but not the printer, its just when its connected at both ends

Sounds like the problem is with your printer.... but is there a way to reset your printer somehow (other than turning it off and on)?

Sorry, I am now at my limit of ideas.

HC, I will check my email. Thanks so much, BTW for your offer!

hoxtonchick · 22/11/2004 22:41

pinkmama is currently clambering over furniture, trying to reset the printer....

pinkmama · 22/11/2004 22:42

hmm, not sure maomao, will need to do a bit of investigation, but thanks for the help
