Hi there, my eldest kid is off to Primary School this September and am after tips about how to prepare him - is there anything in particular you wish you had discussed/taught your child before they went?
And where is best for decent, quality uniform and shoes? Fairly rough and sporty boy so hard wearing and frequent washing required!
Thanks in advance

There is a whole Primary School section on here you need to explore. If you post there you'll get more answers.

Prep for primary is mainly around independence:

  • putting on an doing up coats and shoes

  • recognising name when written

  • using toilet independently including washing hands

  • listening, taking turns, waiting, asking for help

Uniform I found M&S and John Lewis lasted my girls well but others swear b the supermarkets.

Enjoy your new adventure.

Being able to hold a pencil
Dress himself
Do up shoes
It would help if he could count to ten
Is he used to looking at books?
Can he do colouring and jigsaw puzzles?
Feed himself
Sit still and pay attention

When you say off to Primary do you mean Reception or Year 1? Has he been tu nursery at all?

Agree the self care stuff is prob the biggest thing. Is he toilet trained? Can he put his coat on and off even if he can't fasten it?

Can he visually recognise his name? Does he know any of his letters, numbers, colours, shapes?
