DD has to find out information about Burma (Myanmar) such as clothes, transport, lifestyles and religion. It is driving DH and I nuts. There is precious little in the library and we cannot find much on the net. Does anyone know of a decent website for a 11 year old researching this country? Hope so .

Mears my dad was stationed in Burma during WW2 with the RAF, 267 Squadron.

One of their duties there was to airlift donkeys, yes the four-legged eeyore type. And as they couldn't land in the mountainous region the poor beast were pushed out the door (my dad's job!) with parachutes attached. I wish I had a scanner so you could get a photo.

That might be an interesting titbit for your dd if she needs to add anything about Burma's history in WW2, if not it is a funny story anyway.

dh has been to burma, about 12 years ago. I'm sure he would try and answer any questions you may have.

mears · 22/11/2004 23:44

Thank you all for those sites. I knew I would get assistance here . Every search I did din't get the info we wanted. She needs information and pictures about the lifestyle etc. that I mentioned in my post. Thanks Lou for the offer of info - if she is stumped I know where to ask.
I would have liked to have see a photo TwoIfBySea - what a thought - flying donkeys.

Thanks again all of you who posted sites - you are all stars

Dear mears, the Foreign Office site has basic information on most countries and is really handy for facts and figures. Sorry I don't have the link to hand, my clockwork machine is acting up this evening! For an interesting take on Burma the mountaineer Doug Scott has written some excellent articles with great photographs - I will try to find these for you when this thing is being less of a paperweight.

mishmish · 23/11/2004 00:48

Hi mears, managed to get machine up to warp factor 2.

Here's the FCO country profile\link{http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1007029394365&a=KCountryProfile&aid=1018965307901\ for Burma

mears · 23/11/2004 13:03
