Is it Venture portraits?

FlameNFurter · 09/01/2008 21:00

Nooooooooooo venture!!!

Carmenere · 09/01/2008 21:01

Oh be careful, these are almost always a scan insofar as they tell you you have won a shoot but they just give you one small picture and try to hard sell you lots of other ones they take too.

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 09/01/2008 21:01

are you getting pictures free too? if so, how many?

Carmenere · 09/01/2008 21:01

Scan? I meant scam obv.

WigWamBam · 09/01/2008 21:02

Venture, by any chance?

Do a quick archive search on their name before you get sucked in any further.

Fireflyfairy2 · 09/01/2008 21:04

This happened to me!!!

If it was venture don't do it!!

My sisters' (4 of them) were all with me that day too & filled in forms...

I have a voucher from Venture currently sat on my desk, which I apparently won. Worth £125 by all accounts. I am not taking them up on the offer, although I have had them call me either 4 or 5 times now over the past fortnight, to persuade me to take them up on it.

redadmiral · 09/01/2008 21:10

My friend felt ripped off by one like that.. not Venture... Something to do with a makeover as well, and yes, it was a hard sell and she felt trapped into paying more than she wanted..

ScoobyDoo · 09/01/2008 21:14

Yep i had a phone call like this last yr from a form i filled in outside our local tesco, i never went because heard it was a scam they did not stop phoing me though.

morningpaper · 09/01/2008 21:15

Please please don't do it

If you've fallen for the £150 voucher you will fall for the £1,000 prints

Please don't go

Fanargadeb · 09/01/2008 21:19

omg!!! really! yes it is venture i know nout about them!! as it is we havent long had photos done (november) when they phoned they did ask for card details to ensure my appointment but i was out etc and didnt give, good job now i see!!!

oh yes I 'won' a photoshoot too, from Venture of course! If you do go, be prepared, decide in advance if you want to spend money on more photos or just get the free portrait, and stick to it. They are vultures at venture. Evil.

I was broke at the time, not a penny to my name, so went along, and just got the free print, just kept smiling and saying no as they tried persuading me to buy more. They got quite frustrated in the end.

The photographer was nice though, he secretly sent me a cd of all the photos he'd taken anyway

FlameNFurter · 09/01/2008 21:24

I was strong and held out... but came out in tears They shouldn't be able to reduce a new mum to tears

dollyk · 09/01/2008 21:30

I have won this to so did everyone I know I thought that I was the only one, but I never went through with getting them done

Fanargadeb · 09/01/2008 21:34

i think something should be done about it, reducing people to tears is not right but if they want a war they can have it, they aint met me yet and i ll come out with more than a photo belive me!! thanks you guys for the advice, i could have ended up paying hundreds of pounds for something i didnt want!! thank you very much atleast i know to prepare myself!! im a business woman myself and can sell ice to an eskimos!! they ve got their work cut out with me!!

have a look at this.

Then search the archives here....and only then decide if you are going.

SlightlyMadShrek · 09/01/2008 21:36

They dod do very nice photographs - I won't doubt that.

But their sales strategy is a little below the belt at times...

Fanargadeb · 09/01/2008 21:37

omg jus looked!! that is so wrong the bas*s

chocolatespiders · 09/01/2008 21:37

blimey you were lucky to get the cd of prints

we spent £2,000 and asked for cd to be told no

Dottydot · 09/01/2008 21:38

Ah yes - that was my thread...

The upshot was that we have ended up with a beautiful photo but it was very, very difficult and I'd never go back there. Sorry...

SlightlyMadShrek · 09/01/2008 21:43

DottyDot that thread reduced me to tears .

I was appalled by that thread in particular

I was thinking about signing up next time I saw them in town as we have enough 'spare' money to make it worth us going for one of their 'smaller' packages.

I thought they we reasonably respectable with a tougher than average sales crew, which I thought I could deal with if I had too.

I won't go near them now, I admire there displays from a distance when I see them in town now.

I am pleased you are happy with the photo you got in the end, I assume that they didn't do anything silly like chop DPs head off or stretch you to look like Mr Blobby?

SlightlyMadShrek · 09/01/2008 21:44

"I was appalled by that thread in particular"

Sorry I wasn't appalled by the actual thread...just the content of it

Dottydot · 09/01/2008 21:45

Well there's a lot less of dp on it than we wanted But she's side on so her profile is still there - she's leaning in and kissing ds2 on his ear - very cute. Ds2's leaning on ds1 and he's leaning on me so yes, it's a lovely photo, but bloody hell it caused us a lot of grief and I hate seeing dp that upset. And I think they could have chopped a bit off me and kept more of dp on

I'll try and photograph it and put it on Mumsnet...
