Red round patch on skin so worried :(

This is my first time posting on mumsnet.
I am so worried and have awful anxiety :(
I have a round red patch on my lower leg about the size of a 50p it’s been there for 3 months now and no creams are getting rid of it.
Went to the pharmacist and they said fungal the first cream I tried helped a little but not much nothing to else has helped.
When I lift my leg up it almost disappears but comes back when I put it down it’s a red patch with few little dots in it.

Been to docs and she said she will send a photo to a dermatologist as I’ve tried three different creams and I will either hear back off her or the hospital.
I am so so worried it is something serious and just feel pure dread each day.
Im so frightened :(

Try not to rehearse disaster! I would have thought (common things being common) that’s it’s probably ringworm or discoid eczema.

It’s great the dermatologist will check it but I imagine that’s the pharmacist being cautious and sensible rather than because they think it’s something bad.

Ringworm?

tkwal · 21/04/2022 18:48

It sounds like it could be a tick bite (serious) or ringworm ( not serious but unsightly and irritating)
I would ask a pharmacist for their opinion. My grandson had ringworm which was treated by liberally applying protopic ointment 0.1% twice a day and putting a plaster over it for an hour or so , just so it got absorbed. If its a tick bite you will need a blood test I think. Sorry can't be more help x

It goes way redder when I stand up

But it used to be very red and more inflamed looking
kind of smoothed out from when it first appeared

Do you think it could be a granuloma annulare.

I suffer from that occasionally (it's reared its head again in the last few days). I have a steroid cream but really they don't know if that actually helps. It just normally goes on its own but can take months.

I did have to go to a dermatologist 1st times as GP was at a loss and they diagnosed it in 30 seconds.

I don’t know I would hope it’s that and nothing serious I’ve scared myself on google :(

You're frightened by a red patch? Do you have health anxiety? You need to put this in perspective- it's a red patch, I've never heard of a red patch with no other symptoms being life threatening. Others may be better informed.

There are people in a really bad way health wise all over Mumsnet, it is not worth fretting over a red patch.

Purplestarsxo · 21/04/2022 19:24

I’m sorry I know I feel really bad now yes I’ve got health anxiety

Don't feel bad, it's you that is getting worried and that's not a nice feeling. Good thing is it's been photographed and referred to dermatology, so you should have some reassurance soon. Try to take your mind off of it- do something you enjoy tonight and have an early night- tomorrow may seem like a better day.
