What to do with engagement ring?

I got engaged around 5 years ago and I unfortunately haven’t been able to wear the ring for 2 years due to weight gain. It doesn’t fit anymore and I also would like to potentially change the size of the diamond one day too. Does anyone know where I would need to take it and what I could request? It cost £1100 and I haven’t worn it much as I’m not allowed to wear rings at work. I would like a whole new ring OR to get this one made bigger to fit and also add a large diamond. It has one diamond in the middle and around 12 little one’s across the band.

I'm sure a jeweller will make it bigger for you, they kind of stretch it over a last, very simple job xxxx

Forgot to mention we did get married!! I have my wedding ring but it fits fine. Unfortunately my old wedding ring got stolen at work (had to remove it and left it inside my bag). New one is just a plain band that has totally discoloured and looks yellow. Could do with replacing both rings to be honest but I don’t know when I will get to wear anything as I am only allowed a plain band at work no stones.

I would find an independent jeweller they will reset and resize it for you.

I had my wedding band to wrap around my engagement ring so that I looks like one ring. I love it 8 years down the line

Love it still that should say

Yep take it to an independent jeweller, you can also ask them to replate your wedding ring (sounds like white gold from what you describe? Needs to be rhodium plated every few years)

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 06/04/2022 19:01

Don't know about the resizing, but your ring that's turned yellow - is it white gold? If it is, they're rhodium plated, the 'white' gold is that faintly yellow colour, and it probably just needs replating.

I'd second finding an independent jeweller. Then they will work with your designs and ideas and within your budget. They'll also usuallly keep the work in-house rather than send it away.

I will have a look online and find one near to me. I’m wondering how much it would cost, do you think it would be cheaper to just buy a new ring or would me trading in my one and upgrading the size and stone work out cheaper?

@GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut yes it’s white gold I genuinely didn’t realise this thank you 🙏

Hi. Same happened to me, so completely sympathise! Our local H.Samuel shop said they could stretch the ring to my new measurement. But I forget how much they quoted though. So you could just enquire of any local jewellers, and/or compare prices.
