Hiya me again.

Right getting hold of past 3 perscriptions is gonna be hard cos i used a different opticians then.

Am racking my brains trying to think where i have put old ones, but i have probably chucked them anyhow when we moved.

How about if i get my last one and then the one from my ytest this week ???

Oh and i am about 30mins by bus from Brum city centre.

I'll do a bit of ringing around tommorow with my old opticians and see if they can help at all.

Hope they don't ask me what i want it for , can you imagine the conversation "erm well it's for this person tht i know, well sort of know of some website that reckons she has something up her sleeve"

Hurray! Progress!! More importantly, a thread just for me!!!!!!

Getting nearer to the thing up my sleeve:

So! You will have three readings per eye, for example

Sph Cyl Axis
Right

Left

If you are shortsighted (hoping you are) you will have a minus before the number under the sphere. You need to just copy exactly what is under all the above columns.

Also, do you know Bristol Road in Birmingham?
How old are you?
Do you wear contact lenses (if so, which ones?) or glasses?
When is your test this week?

Awaiting your answers...!

ChicPea · 23/11/2004 22:09

Drat, the Sph, Cyl and Axis were supposed to be spaced out. And there is a reading for each eye.

Nutcracker · 24/11/2004 13:03

right, well firstly i think i have an odd perscription then cos for my right eye i only have on reading which is the Sph one which is 3.50 with a little line above the 3.

For the left eye i have Sph is 2.50 with the little line over the 2. Then i have Cyl which is 0.75 with a little line over the 0 and then i have Axis which is 25.

Should i have 3 readings for the right eye too then ???

The test was done in november 03.

In answer to the other questions

Yes i do know Bristol Rd
I am 26
No i don't wear contact lenses (have had 2 trials but just didn't like them), so i wear glasses.
My test is on Friday, although i may have to change it.

Would you rather me have a new test done or try and get hold of some old perscriptions ??

Oh and yes i am short sighted.

Finally Nutcracker, the info I have been waiting for.

The CYL on the left eye prescription denotes astigmatism which with a reading of -0.75, you are slightly astigmatic in that eye. That's fine and nothing to worry about. According to your optician, your right eye is not astigmatic and that's why there is no CYL reading.

Don't know when you last had a test but you need to establish that your eyesight is stable in order to be suitable for laser eye treatment. Please let me know when you last tested and if the result was the same. If you CAT me I shall give you information so that you can go to Optimax Laser Eye Clinic, 96 Bristol Road, Birmingham B5 7XJ and have treatment for free as a Christmas/Don't Feel So Low Present. (This is NOT a joke). You just need 3-4 days for recovery - you need to rest - and have help with your children. I had laser eye surgery on my first eye (-2.75) in 1993 and on my second eye (-2.50) in 1994. It's a fantastic treatment for anybody wearing contact lenses or glasses. The doctors used to treat each eye separately but they now do both eyes in one op if the patient wishes. It's a painless procedure which when you throw away your glasses/contact lenses is soooo liberating.

Please CAT me.

Thanks.
