NAPPY CHANGING NIGHTMARE!

JULIEABBO · 07/01/2008 11:14

My one year old son is a nightmare when I want to change or dress him. I have tried giving him things to hold or dangling things in front of him but nothing will keep him still apart from holding on to him and he gets really upset and wants to move.
Help please!

if you have time, do it in stages - DS goes through phases of this, and if I let him run away and then chase and grab him, he thinks it is a game and co-operates more, but everything takes 3 times as long because you have to chase before each thing

I hear you loud and clear!!!!

I think it's only natural and my DS is now 16 months and is starting to get better, I've become a dab hand at wiping bums and putting nappies on while he's standing up! And if he had a pooy one, then I just have to hold him down, I didn't care if he got upset, I needed to wipe!

I now use pull ups! Much easier!

My partner says that I should hold him down but he just cries and cries. It is only me he does it with to! I have thought of the pull up option but seems ridiculous. I'm sure it's only natural but it's so hard esp when in a hurry in the am!

I know it's hard, but he will grow out of it, and he's got to learn that his behaviour can't go on, and he need's his bum wiped!!! I now how hard it is and it's surprising how strong the little buggers can be when they don't want something done!!! But keep perservering!

Once he's had his bum wiped then let him get up and dod what he wants while you follow him round with the clean nappy!!!!

my 18 month old son is very slowly improving the worst thing is when my husband collected him from the childminder he discovered that when she wanted to change his nappy and called him he just goes and lies down on the changing mat! If only he did that for me-it a major workout!

cheeseontoast · 09/01/2008 01:38

It could be worse - my 14mo DD has taken this a stage further by rummaging down the back of her nappy, then running at me with a hand-full of poo, in order to show me that she needs changing. TMI sorry

When I then attempt to change her, she does the whole running around the settee routine!

don't know if Aldi in the Uk do it but here in Aus they stock a larger size nappy - that would suit one year olds but in a pull up style. - easy rip sides for poo and clean up and then whip clean ones back on.

i remember it well! the only way i could get dd to lie still was to give her my mobile phone - complete with pictures, otherwise normally out of bounds! my mum got lots of calls!
