WTF is a shy kid doll? It hides you say?

morningpaper · 02/01/2008 20:58

I'm surprise Doctor Who haven't made a programme with the shy kid dolls

they are the stuff of pure horror

iHeartGok · 02/01/2008 20:59

(am NDP by the way)

louii · 02/01/2008 21:00

Why, seriously, WHY???

whomovedmychocolate · 02/01/2008 21:00

Shy kids

iHeartGok · 02/01/2008 21:01

The Shy Kid things are an even weirder idea. Apparently they have no faces

Re the one I linked to, why would you want one with its face scrunched up like it's about to scream the place down ? Surely a serene looking one is the order of the day ?

The shy kid dolls don't even have a face, they look like children being punished, give me the creeps as well.

I used to make reborn dolls until I couldn't afford to anymore (it's an expensive business!)

Reborn dolls are basically expensive dolls made of soft realistic touch vinyl by a doll company. The reborner buys these dolls, takes them apart, removes their nasty wig, stuffing and paint, and "reborns" (stupid term) them into a better more realistic doll by opening up their nostrils, giving them individually rooted hair, glass eyes, weighting them realistically so the head is heavy and floppy like a young baby, painting their skin inside and out to give them realistic alive looking fleshtones, and finally dressing them to look like a real baby and selling them for anything from £50-£400. There are loads on ebay.

And can I just say that I'm not a weirdo, I have an art degree and I enjoyed making the dolls as realistic as possible, it was a lot of fun and took a lot of technical skill, I don't have some kind of weird unresolved baby issues!! lol

However, I can't vouch for the people who buy them (I wouldn't buy one, I'm not sure what they get out of owning them)

noddyholder · 02/01/2008 21:05

I have seen the ad and it has freaked me out.Although my main worry is that my mad mum who knows I really wanted a second child but couldn't will see this and suggest |I get one.I kid you not she things there is a fix for everything no matter how outlandish. This is the woman who when she met my bals dp for the first time proceeded to fill him in on the delights of toupees!Think I'll switch the phone off

It's the name that really bothers me. I'll be watching the programme because I'm fascinated to find out who might own these things. To me the name conjures up images of some kind of full body cast of a stillborn baby or something, almost like the idea of getting a genetic clone of your dead dog (which I know isn't the case). But why on earth choose such a freaky sounding name for these things? And "reborning" - fgs!
