I'm just going to be cross now ... don't drivers know that they're meant to stop to let pedestrians cross the road at crossings ? This afternoon 2 cars sped past without stopping and one was a driving instructor !! grrr I was so cross that I grumbled about it all the way home...

Technically, cars don't have to stop unless someone has actually stepped onto the crossing.

they are awful. i hate it when you half way past and the other side starts zooming past again

zephyrcat · 18/11/2004 18:44

but you wouldnt step onto the road with kids (or without!) unless you knew they were gonna stop.....

I hate it. I dont understand why cars make people so impatient!! I am trying to teach dd to use the crossing so i always get her to press the button and wait for the green man - even when the roads are quiet. Am i wrong to do it? I have been wondering! I guarantee the drivers will always look at me like i have no right to stop them

It's fine for (some) drivers to park on the pavement but heaven help any pedestrian who invades their sacred turf by setting foot on to the road. Grrrr!

I do put a foot onto the crossing - kids stay on the pavement. Round here it's the only way to get the cars to stop!

I always get the kids to press the button and we do wait until the Green Man shows, even if the road is clear.

I think alot of younger drivers don't know what a zebra crossing is - they think because it doesn't show a red light they don't need to stop!

but we were on the crossing !! that's why I was so outraged !!
