Don't watch the news

Hi all so I've decided to stop watching the news. Every time I watch it, it does nothing but scare me/ depress me so I'd sooner be oblivious to it. Will this make me stupid? I'd feel so stupid if friends bring up conversations I know nothing about?

I only watch them when there is something important, and just for that bit, if I can be bothered. I check the newspaper headlines, and so decide if there is anything juicy that day or if someone comments on a particular matter.
I am 100% sure I am stupid, but I am happy like this.

I don't "watch the news". However I always check the news daily on the BBC news website, read the online Guardian and news stories that come up on my Facebook timeline etc so I mostly know what's happening out there. But by reading it online I can pick and choose what stories I read (sometimes a headline is all you need to know about an incident - you don't need all the details) and I also don't have to watch any horrible film footage.
