Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you are all enjoying yourselves!

I hope you can help us. My DD has been coveting an iPod nano for months and her face lit up when she found one in her stocking but....... we can't work it!

We have Vista on the computer. When we plug the iPod in, a box comes up headed 'autoplay'
with the menu 'open folder to view files' and 'speed up my system' and 'set autoplay defaults in control panel'.

I am not great on the computer but I cannot figure out what to do next.

If anyone can help I would be most grateful and it will be like Christmas all over again for my DD!

Merry Christmas!

Sorry you are having problems, I wish I could help but I've no idea. I just know that Vista can cause lots of problems with things but not sure if this is anything to do with why it's not working. I just wanted to ask if you've put this in the 'Geeky Stuff' section as that's usually very useful (although not sure about on Christmas day but worth a try).

Good luck, hope you get it sorted xx

Have you put in the cd that comes with the ipod?

If it is a secondhand one, go onto the itunes website and download the latest software

TenLordsaLapin · 25/12/2007 08:59

Right, that Autoplay etc means that the computer is recognising the iPod as like another disk drive. What you need is some software that will see it as an iPod.

Go to this page and download iTunes first, and install it on your computer. Once you've done that, plug in the iPod (with iTunes running) and iTunes should try and link up with the iPod. Then you can download music and also upload your own CDs.

The Nano doesn't come with a CD, xmascake

ibroughtxmascake · 25/12/2007 09:01

Just realised that, I already had the software from another ipod that I had when I got the nano.

Hope you have got it working soon

chocolatespiders · 25/12/2007 09:02

really hope you get it sorted

have a great day.

I reckon they don't give you a CD just so they can keep the packaging tiny!

I've given my mum and DH Nanos this year, no doubt I'll be explaining all this (twice) later on

Pacific · 25/12/2007 09:09

Thanks for replying.

There was no disc with the iPod and it is new, from Argos.

Ten Lords, I have gone to your link(thank you) but I am still not sure what bit I need to download. Is it iTunes7 in the top right corner?

Yes, that's it. It's compatible with Vista (I am running it on my Vista laptop no problems). It should install quite quickly. Then open it up, plug in the iPod and it will attempt to pair it. You might need to know your administrator password - I'm not sure. Give it a whirl.

Thank you. Doing it now

LOL lucky you, Pacific's DD! I have to upgrade my husband's Mac now and install new memory because his Nano only works on my computer!
