I'm rubbish at sending cards, but I do try to send them to the people that I don't see. We do a Christmas shoebox from each of the children.

Dp insists on special cards with mum, mummy, nanny, grandma, grandpa, fiance and fiancee..... waste of flippin' money. Hallmark must make a fortune. Surely the point is that you write inside the card! My mum doesn't need reminding that she has a grandson, she's not that flippin' old

Not sure what you mean about the donation to charity instead? Is this an English thing?

I bought charity Christmas cards this year, so hopefully have found a way of combining sending cards with a donation to charity. Now just need to sit down and write them out......which I know I should do before we get caught up in the manic pre-Christmas madness.

There was something on our church notice sheet this week called "World vision's alternative christmas card" Which is a big card that you can write your message on for a small donation with the idea being that the money you save can go to charity. Would only work in churches and work places though I suppose, but it seems a good idea!

Yes because I always send autism-related charity cards and think it raises awareness and reminds people about it and what an important issue it is for us without asking them for money or anything.

I use it as a way of keeping in touch with people as I'm particularly rubbish at that the rest of the year. I do send charity cards though - like Davros, to keep the people I'm sending them to aware of things!

I donated to charity last year hatter - sent Xmas cards to people who don't have email, like old relatives etc who'd be upset without an oldfashioned card, but just emailed everyone else and explained what I was doing.

What I wanted to do was send a virtual charity Xmas card - see this thread - am determined to find a way of doing this this year.

I do send Christmas cards, and always will do. Partly because my friends and family are so scattered around the world (well, OK, England and the eastern US), and for quite a few people Christmas cards are the only contact we have all year. I always put in a photo of the kids and last year I started doing a letter telling people about what we've been doing the past year.

I dont send any and havent done for three years, well maybe a couple to old ladies and the like.

I noticed dh never sent them so thought I wonder whY i bother!

I like sending Christmas cards and always will because I like receiving them.

I don't send to people I haven't seen for years or if I haven't spoken to someone all year - seems pointless as codswallop said.

I can't stand those round robin newsletter things though - so hard not to sound incredibly smug and big-headed in them! My friends parents sent one every year and never ever mentioned my friend's messy divorce and that she was leaving him for a priest! He only got a mention years later when they got married and that past could be forgotten. Ridiculous!

i agree 100% coddy, i haven't sent any for a few years now either and haven't lost any friends from it. I don't give a toss if i don't receive any cards either. It's all a big waste of paper imo.

I send cards - always - I'm not arsed about presents tho - imho thats got WAY out of proportion - but I do like a nice card!

I'm trying to raise awareness of their fund raising charity Christmas e-cards.

For a minimum donation of £5, you can send as many e-cards as they like, ranging from exploding santas, Sex pistols anarchicxmas songs, ice skating penguins to more traditional festive scenes.

This week we should be adding cards designed by some celebs who are supporting the campaign including McFly, the cast of Hollyoakes, Jamelia, 411, Pete and Geoff from Virgin Radio and Lorraine Kelly.

I hope that you don't mind me posting. We really appreciate your support, so if you can tell as many people as you can about the cards, we'd really appreciate it.

Charity Christmas cards. Last year they were from Oxfam, they had some really nice ones in. Haven't bought this years yet....

I do send cards. DH's work tho don't give each other cards, they donate they money they would have spent on a box of cards for workmates to charity. DD has to give cards to every single member of her class and some in her other year class too!

Cancer Research UK are doing a virtual card service for both individuals and companies.

I couldn't find any charity ones here, probably wasn't looking in the right places. Anyway I've missed the posting date for overseas now, I'm just too busy having fun with the kids outdoors.
