Annoying phonecalls!

Apologies if this is completely in the wrong place!

We changed our phone number after a few months due to receiving those annoying phonecalls from call centres and those bloody automated ones. When I changed the number we got it made ex directory and I registered with the TPS. But now its happening again! Ive emailed BT but to be honest I dont know what they can do. Are there better providers out there or is it just 'one of those things' that Im just going to have to get used to? Sounds silly but it is causing me stress. Ive had 2 today and 3 yesterday. I make a point of not giving out my number, yet the calls are always 'witheld', 'international' or 'unavailable'. We keep the phone on silent now as Im thinking well if anyone important calls then they will leave me a message but Im seriously getting fed up with this. Any help/advice much appreciated!

TPS is normally really good about screening out most of the nuisance calls, but if you get any, don't get stressed, just hang up!

Ask who the companies are and then report them to tps, they have a form on their website.

The callers sometimes buy your details from sources you trust and if they had it before you registered with TPS, they'll still call, so my sister who works in a call centre told me:

When they call tell them that you don't want them to call and to remove all your from their list. You also don't give them permission to sell/pass your details onto third parties. Get them to confirm on the phone that they will do this. If you hear from them again you'll report them to the Information COmmissioner. That will stop them!

tell them you are registered with TPS and you will report them. They get fined for breaching the industry rules, so usually hang up pretty sharpish.

We had this with a double glazing company who just wouldn't stop calling, even after I'd had letters of apology from the head office (they had given our details to another company as well). Last time they called, I mentioned the TPS (it was their head office told me about TPS in the first place, fgs!!) and haven't been bothered since.

Good Luck with it, it is soooo annoying!

just don't answer them

we never answer our home phone - it goes to the answer machine and then, if someone really wants to get hold of us, they'll leave a message (or we'll pick it up as they start speaking when we know who it is!).

how to complain about cold callers

Now I know on there it says you need to identify the caller - it doesn't have to be by their number - if you listen to the call and it tells you to call a number (those automated calls), then write down the number and log a complaint (they can trace who it is via the premium rate number).

They do take action against companies who call you when you've registered on the TPS.

I registered with tps straight away when I changed our number, not even my bank has my number so I can only guess its bt call centres. I will maybe try answering and telling them Im registered with tps but to be honest its making me so anxious Im not sure I'll even be able to answer the phone
I tend not to answer calls that say 'withheld' or whatever.

Seriously, report them, it worked for us.
