Could someone explain why it is dodgy to put your number on a thread? [thick]

Well, unless you want everyone in the world to find your number...

SleighlyMadSanta · 08/12/2007 17:19

If I was DESPERATE I would put my personal details on profile for long enough to be seen by someone on her and then I could delete it w/o waiting for MNHQ.

Even then I think I would use my email rather than phone number.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 08/12/2007 17:19

Yes, but why the panic? Do people really scour MN active convos for phone numbers? There can't be many.

(am not very clever, please humour me!)

...but waiting for a more scary explaination...

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 08/12/2007 17:21

I'm just surprised she's not got a mobile she could have used to phone herself. I do that all the time (and vice versa when I can't find my mobile )

SleighlyMadSanta · 08/12/2007 17:26

Twinkly....I suspect there are robots which can scour the whole web for numbers or words in teh format of a phone number, address or email...

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 08/12/2007 17:29

Sleighlymadsanta is right. Agencies that seel phone numbers/email/addresses set bots to scour every inch of the web.

belgo · 08/12/2007 17:31

and there are weirdos who read mn unfortunately, and that thread was fairly obvious

Brandnewchristmaspyjamasgirl · 08/12/2007 17:32

I may just add my number now noone ver rings me it will be nice to chat to someone even if it is a robot trying to scam me

TenLordsaLapin · 08/12/2007 17:33

There is something else but I'd rather not say until her number has been deleted

SleighlyMadSanta · 08/12/2007 17:35

Can you say on this thread so that I don't miss the answer...it will be on my watching threads that way

cheers my bestest friendly MN buddy

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 08/12/2007 17:37

Oh dear. My email is on a few. I had better get them deleted. I usually leave spaces like evryone else but a few times I forgot. Do you think mnhq would mind deleting them? Hassle for them.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 08/12/2007 17:40

I doubt they'd mind deleting, but there really isn't too much they can do with just an email address, though you might get spammed, I doubt they could scam you.
Just don't open any email attachments, or click on any links in emails that you dont recognise incase it's a virus.

TenLordsaLapin · 08/12/2007 17:41

email's no biggy.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 08/12/2007 17:48

Oh, that's a relief! I have been getting a bit of spam lately, about one or two a week, nothing like I used to get with my old address (that was the domain apparently, not individual )

Have now reported all 8 of my posts with my email on them.

Thanks so much for explaining.

I hope there is someone about to delete Sugar's number.
