On saturday dd1&2 are going to a brownie sleepover and will be gone from sat lunch time until sunday lunch time.

I will still have 5 yr old ds with me and would like to find something for just me and him to do.

He is a bit hard to pleased so it has to be something that will grab and hold his interest, oh and nothing expensive as budget is practically nil.

My only ideas were the cinema, but i'm not sure there is anything on he would like, or the build a bear factory, but that is pricey i think.

go to the park in the afternoon? it's lovely this time of year though could be wet

Maidamess · 06/12/2007 21:03

Howsabout pottery painting if there is one near you?

Or cooking something he really fancies together?

I take my kids with me to a 'nice' cafe if its just me and one of them for a hot chocolate and a bun. Lovely! The christmas lights will all be out, just looking at them together as it starts to get dark is lovely.

Have fun!

nutcracker · 06/12/2007 21:08

Pottery thing sounds fab but it is too far unfortunatly, and not on bus route either.

Park is a possible so long as it's not poring down.

Cafe we can definatly do aswell.

Swimming? My friend took her 5 year old to see the Golden Compass and they loved it. Bowling? Sometimes we go round the charity shops and get a couple of 50p videos and turn the living room into a cinema with some crisps and sweets. Very cheap but fun too.

nutcracker · 06/12/2007 21:09

Oh, cooking is a no by the way, as he is scared to death of the electric whisk, and even if I promise that we won't use it, he still isn't interested lol.

Hmmm bowling, never taken him before, will have a think about that one.

Swimming baths is shut until forever at this rate.

Fancy doing something warm and chrtistmassy and cosy lol

nutcracker · 06/12/2007 21:12

Can you take him somewhere nice for lunch - doesn't have to be pricey just more grown up and different than Mc D's. Anything like a temporary skating rink around .

nutcracker · 06/12/2007 21:26

There is a temp ice rink in brum at the mo, but it is quite pricey and tbh i am not sure he would like it.

Will definatly take him out for lunch/dinner and have a look in local paper tommorow to find something else we can do.

Have just seen that local pics are showing that Be movie, anyone seen it ??

OP posts:
ShakeysGirl · 06/12/2007 21:34

No but was thinking of taking my ds to see it but the cinema is so expensive now days especially if you get drinks and sweets. We are totally broke at the moment but got some cheap glitter and stuff from wilkinsons last week and they enjoyed making christmas cards maybe he would like that?

nutcracker · 06/12/2007 21:37

Possibly, kind of depends on his mood lol.

I normally have to pay for 4 at the pics, so paying for 2 will seem mega cheap lol.

where about in bham are you?
the reel in quinton (on hagley road) is cheaper than the big chains and bee movie is on there....cheaper in the day than the eve as well

otherwise, dd likes to go to the cafe as well...thinks it is a great treat

pollywollybauble · 06/12/2007 21:40

can take your own sweets in under your coat....there is a coop next door to choose them in...

nutcracker · 06/12/2007 21:42

Too far from there unfortunatly, I am in sutton coldfield.

Just checked and it would be nearly £10 for me and ds at the pics so might have to shelve that idea.

I think i might take him to get some craft stuff from Wilkos and get something to eat and then come home and do craft stuff and watch dvd.

pollywollybauble · 06/12/2007 21:46

make your own popcorn for the dvd?....

either the old fashionned way or those microwave bags that swell up in the microwave whilst popping madly

make some extra....spray it with paint and thread it on strings and hang it round the room in a xmas stylie....hope you enjoy whatever you do

ShakeysGirl · 06/12/2007 21:57

We tried microwave popcorn the other week and it was nasty! Not even the kids would eat it lol
