Can someone talk to an Ebay virgin please??

I have never ever bought anything off ebay before, but have seen some boots that I need (ok ok, but they are cool as and I really really want them).

So... bidding? Tips?

And does it help at all that the item ends at half five today - I'm sure I've heard that sun days are the busiest time?

I was an ebay virgin up until a month or so ago. It was exciting at the end of the bidding when I just felt like those people in the advert! Someone was bidding against me too but I won.
Just make sure you read everything that comes up and do it step by step, it isn't too complicated. I didn't get the technique for bidding though, you can put in the maximum amount you would pay and they seem to bid for you automatically. Maybe someone else ill be able to explain it!
Good luck with the boots!

the path of least stress to to decide exactly how much you think they are worth (including postage) then bid for that. do not get carried away with the bidding excitment and end up paying more than they would cost in the shops. also ebay is crazed at this time of year and thing tend to go for silly money.

Always make sure you are logged in.
Have been caught out many times making a last minute bid only to find I have to go through the log-in screen first and consequently missed the last few seconds of the auction

Ok have just ticked the box to keep me logged in for the day.

I have to have the boots.

Check out the feedback of the seller first.
Even if it says 100% positive it may mean he/she's a good buyer but has never sold anything before. Also check when the last transaction was - some reactivate old accounts.

Check the methods of payment are acceptable and factor in p&p when determinng your maximum bid.

NEVER, EVER buy anything from Nigeria!

stripeymama · 06/12/2007 10:49

Feedback as a seller is 100%.

And is Worcestershire, not Nigeria!!

Thursday 5:30 is good as not so many people will be online to outbid you. Sunday afternoons everyone is sitting there browsing. Actualy I think Thu is also a busy day but 5:30 hopefully others will still be at work! Don't put your bid in till the last few minutes as seeing your bid will only alert the other interested parties that there is someone else interested and encourage them to outbid you. If you put in the highest amount you are willing to pay for them in the last few minutes then the other parties won't be shown the highest amount you are willing to go to and might not have time to outbid you. It can be quite addictive buying on Ebay so you must make sure you also learn how to sell s you can make money back and not fill your house up the brim with boots, etc.!
