I would say that a) she is too young and b) it is far too expensive for a present for such a small child. That said if you are really buying it for yourselves and using her as an excuse then go for it and enjoy

willow · 03/12/2007 11:03

No experience of Wii - but, based on other systems, would have said your daughter is far too young for this.

Enid · 03/12/2007 11:04

agree with carmenere

if it is really for you and dh/dp then fine

ridiculous for a 3.5 year old

Enid · 03/12/2007 11:05

where are you getting it from? they are sold out everywhere I thought

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 03/12/2007 11:05

This is a joke right?

Is is a gift for the family rather than just for DD? As a family toy/game it is fab! Lots of stuff for the wii that a 3 year old can enjoy and grow into too. Sure it will provide you all with lots of fun, and for a long time to come too.

!

WhenScoobyGotStuckUpTheChimney · 03/12/2007 11:23

Oh in that case get it, i thought you wanted to buy it for your 3.5 year old to just play with, i would buy it if you & your dh play it she will grow into it.

my dd2 loves our wii and she's 2.5, she can bowl although not very well and we have the cosdmis family game and she likes that.

We also have Boogie and she loves to sing into the mic and also can make her little character dance, she's hoping for high school musical game for the wii for Christmas and i doubt we'll get her off it after that arrives!

Chopster · 03/12/2007 12:25

3.5! I have a 7yo and a 5yo and they can barely manage to play it! I'm really not sure encouraging a toddler to play computer games is a great idea niether.

noonar · 03/12/2007 12:34

sorry, but i hate the idea of electronic and computer games for such young children. there are some really frightening statistics about how long the average 10 year old spends playing them everyday. why start them off so early??

i just think that children should be actively involved in imaginative play and creative stuff. i dont mean to preach- mine (aged 3 and 5)watch far too much tv, but the idea of computer games for this age makes me shudder.

StarofBethleCam · 03/12/2007 12:36

Spend the money on books for her instead

oljam · 03/12/2007 12:37

My 3 year old can handle the Wii fine, loves the bowling and Super Mario Party. It's restricted to an hour on rainy days, so not very often, but I would recommend it as a games console for the whole family. There are games on it that very young children can play quite easily.

Hulababy · 03/12/2007 12:38

Children are only corrupted or become obsessed by computer games, Tv or anything else for that matter is you as parents allow them. DD has managed perfectly fine with the Wii and her Gameboy for the past few months and is in no way obsessed at all. We control what she plays and when. This will not change as DD gets older as we, as parents, will still be in charge!

Hulababy · 03/12/2007 12:39

And why can't you successfully combine a Wii and books?!

belgo · 03/12/2007 12:40

my three nd a half year old would much rather lego. cheaper as well.

StarofBethleCam · 03/12/2007 12:40

You can do what you like Hula

I just think its all naff consumerist money-grabbing rip-off shoite

But I realise I'm a lone voice in the wilderness

Hulababy · 03/12/2007 12:43

It's just the "computers are evil" type things we hear sometimes. Just make sme think That's all. It's like saying if you buy your child one item then that is the only thing they will ever play with and use. And it is so untrue surely? DD plays with all manner of toys and games, plays outside, plays alone, plays with friends, watches TV, dances, does organised sport/activities, reads loads of books, colours, etc....and yes, a small amount of time she plays on a computer game.

No problem with people deciding they don't ant there child to have access to something, but think the odd comments that we get sometimes on here, not on this thread as yet, are a tad OTT and simply not true to life.

belgo · 03/12/2007 12:44

in fact my dds don't even know what a computer game is. I plan to keep it that way for as long as possible.

noonar · 03/12/2007 12:44

no, star of beth. you are not alone

StarofBethleCam · 03/12/2007 12:44

It boils down to what people want to spend their money on

Enid · 03/12/2007 13:01

think ahead

save it for when she is older and will be thrilled

I love computers and games but agree that it is a shame to introduce them as a main present when children are that young. But thats the way things are going I guess.

Tinker · 03/12/2007 13:05

Am with noonar and NotCam. Adults liking this stuff makes me shudder.

Blu · 03/12/2007 13:14

I agree with Enid. I will not buy anything like this ofr DS until he really begs and is desparate for it.

Get one for yourselves and enjoy it if that is what you want to do, and give your dd something that will make her little face light up when she sees it. Not sure the wii box will do that for her on Christmas morning?
